Greetings,

Ive lurked here a bit and finally decided to jump in. Im out in st chuck and trying buy a place in the city. Im no stranger to message boards, and dont mistake my humo(u)r as anything else, a fun forum is a busy forum, is a friendly forum.

Was facinated with the idea of renovating a building in st louis in the early 90s, left town and have recently came back. I love old stuff, i believe that buying new is for suckers, for about everything but motor oil, socks, and underwear. Whats the point of recycling cans if your not gonna reuse a house?

Its hard to believe how much has changed in st louis... And stayed the same. There has been some real developments in certain parts of the city, while at the same time the amount of buildings that have been demolished in the last 10 years is mindboggling.

It seems there is still opportunity, but just as big developers have taken over st charles county, its apparent there are a few groups that are taking over the renovation biz in st louis. While it seem that these groups are doing great things for the city... For whatevever reason i find it a bit intimidating.

I almost bought a single story bungalow that had been gutted last feb, but backed out after i found that the prior owner had done a bunch of work without pulling permits, i got kinda spooked. I totally regret it. Im trying to stay small with this "project" as i like to call it, seems you could get over your head in no time.

Im really interested in FPSE, among other places. I have had my eye on that area for a few years, and have finally decided i must jump in, just gotta do it!!!

I was down there yesterday looking at a house and i drove by and abandoned one that i would do about anything for. It was one of the most beautiful houses ive ever seen in st louis.

I gotta get outta the burbs!!! Ah!!!!

Well thats a bit about me...

I look forward to my time on this forum and some great advice. Hope i can offer some advice as well.

Later

J

My name is trent, I used to post here a bunch. Then I went away for a while.

My visits became mostly lurking of late. But now I have a new job where I am online all day so I will be able to post.

Some of you may remember me, some may not. I hope we can all be friends again.

Welcome back! I was starting to think that you had been silenced by pro-McDonalds forces or something.

No shrubbery, but I do have a nice herring.

And I've sanded down the horns so they aren't as pointy.

DeB,

Nah, once the school year started, my allowable time online decreased slowly. Then, basketball started and I only had enough time to check my email. But I applied for a different job at the high school, and got it...starting yesterday, I spend the entire school day by a computer. I've missed this place, I used to be the go-to guy amongst my friends when it came to STL developments, but lately I've felt so out of the loop.

Hello all. Wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I've been reading this board for about a year now. I've been living in San Francisco, but have recently moved to St. Louis. I'm living downtown, and I gotta say that it's great. After living in an awesome city like San Francisco, I thought St. Louis would be lacking in comparison. In fact, I think it's better. Great architecture, accessibility, and culture...AND I can actually afford it! I'm really excited to see the changes happening here and am glad to be a part of St. Louis' next renaissance. (ok, that sounded cheesy, but seriously, it's pretty cool). :D

Now that I'm actually here, I'm looking forward to contributing to the topics. thanks!

Last year was great. I was in downtown STL, and the place was bustling. I give all my props out to people celebrating New Years in the City. Good luck finding a cab, and don't leave your wallet in one, like I did. HAHA! Some how, I got it back, after a girl puked in the same cab. Fortunately, it was not on my wallet.

Be careful, drive safe, and make sure you're standing near someone you like... Otherwise, you may receive a surprise at the hour.

So, what brings you here? Native St. Louisan. Went away to Chicago for Grad School but came back when I learned of all of the exciting revitalization going on. Wanted to be part of that

What part of the STL are you from? Raised in Fenton, currently live on the Hill, looking to buy a house in the Shaw or St. Louis Hills neighborhood, CWE, or perhaps maybe even DT

How old are you? 28.

What do you do, or study? Self Employed Scenic Designer. Just got my MFA from Northwestern University. I do scenery for theatres in Chicago and St. Louis, and nationally. I also do theming design and consultation for Busch Entertainment Corporation

The Ultimate St Louis "Get to Know You" question) What High School did you go to? I am a Golden Griffin of Vianney High

So, what brings you here? I grew up across the river in IL and after college moved back here. I got a job downtown and moved to west county. My boyfriend has purchased a loft at the Bogen because we both work downtown and want to move down there to be close to work and closer to our friends. I'm very excited for the move and all that will hopefully develop downtown. I mostly just browse on here to try and get the scoop on new things coming.

What part of the STL are you from? I currently live near westport plaza and have lived here for about 4 years.

How old are you? 27

What do you do, or study? My boyfriend and I both work in IT at AT&T downtown.

What High School did you go to ? I went to school in IL (small town), but he went to Parkway North

So, what brings you here? My husband tuned me into this site -- he is a big downtown lover and our first date was actually a loft tour! (He also works downtown!). We bought into the Syndicate Trust Building last year.

What part of the STL are you from? I am actually from Washington state (north of Seattle -- a little town called Ferndale). My dad was in the military though so I moved around quite a bit but I spent most summers on my grandparent's farm in Ferndale. I came to St Louis for my teaching job, met my fabulous husband, and so decided to stick around awhile!

How old are you? 38!

What do you do, or study? I teach full time at Southwestern Illinois College and I am finishing a Ph.D. at SIU-Carbondale.

(The Ultimate St Louis "Get to Know You" question) What High School did you go to ? As I already mentioned, I graduated from Ferndale High School in Ferndale, WA but now live in Ferguson, MO (but soon downtown!).

Major kudos to the folks behind this forum! It's been a great source of information for us! (and quite interesting to read!)

So, what brings you here? Born and raised across the river, just got really interested in architecture and urbanity in the past year or two. I have zero inside information so I don't know how much I'll contribute, but I'm sure I'll find something.

What part of the STL are you from? Collinsville

How old are you? 17. Young? Yes. However...I don't know where I was going with that.

What do you do, or study? Well, high school curriculum. Outside of school I like architecture, urbanity(hence coming to this board), literature(just now getting into the whole reading thing), and sports

(The Ultimate St Louis "Get to Know You" question) What High School did you go to ? Metro East Lutheran (the tin shed in Edwardsville down the road from EHS 8) )

Eh I guess I'll do this too.

I've been checking out the posts for sometime now. After deciding that I was ready to post, I realized that no new registrations could occur...so I've been forced to look from the outside in for awhile. I recently made the move from suburban IL to the MO side and am now even more so interested in what's going on in the area, specifically downtown and the north side.

I have lived in Granite City most of my life until my move to downtown STL.

I am a student at SIUE, will graduate this December with a degree in geography with specialization in urban studies. I currently work in the planning department for the City of Edwardsville, so obviously I'm interested in all things development.
