The speed at which this project is moving forward, particularly when compared to the drama, desperation and dysfunction of U City's Costco adventure, is both impressive and encouraging. I'm sure a lot of hard work and wrangling happened behind the scenes to put this Steelcote+Target phase together, but nonetheless, the contrast is stark.quincunx wrote: ↑Nov 13, 2021$40M building permit application submitted Oct 27

Crazy how easy it is when you don't have to tear down a whole neighborhood firstwabash wrote: ↑Nov 27, 2021The speed at which this project is moving forward, particularly when compared to the drama, desperation and dysfunction of U City's Costco adventure, is both impressive and encouraging. Oh they tore down a whole neighborhood, just 70+ years before this got built.
Mill Creek Valley had 18,000 people living in it prior to slum clearance. It's going to take a lot more development to even get to half that number.

It will never get to 18,000 ever again, but 8,000 or so might be a good goal.
The site for this development isn't in the former Mill Creek Valley neighborhood. MCV's southern border was Scott Ave. (basically the area north of the tracks).Ebsy wrote: ↑Dec 15, 2021Mill Creek Valley had 18,000 people living in it prior to slum clearance. It's a simple but interesting facade since it can look different depending on the angle.

Thanks for posting Dweebe. Thought it was a nice well balanced local news report and took up Leife's advice.. The statement that hits home as someone w kids is at the end of the day your housing choice does come down to what you feel is educational choices, school district & where can you afford relative to school district or pay for private schools.
An unexpected crane. A red base is in place for the crane at the Edwin (Steelcote Target).
Found the FAA crane application for this one. Says it'll be a maximum of 138ft tall.

Driving through this area you can tell it is really going to be special in 5-10 years.
