So the facade really is glass? I'm impressed; I thought it was going to be some kind of metal screen. I wonder how they're gonna vent that sucker?

The "black paint" seems to only be painted on the outside of the panels. It may be some sort of "backing" for the new panels that will soon cover it. I think the project looks great and I can't wait to see it lit up at night with some retail! :D

We're almost on a roll with better parking garages: Centene in Clayton, St. Louis Centre...maybe Park Pacific. At least they're much, much, much better than what has come before. Seems like a good blog post - anyone want to write it?

Is anyone aware of any tenants for the ground floor retail? Has any business opened in the parking lot near Tucker and Clark? To me it's premature to celebrate over a parking garage with retail until it's occupied with businesses.

True enough, but we can celebrate that retail was at least planned for, and that's a step in the right direction.

This is true. Getting parking garages with ground retail is an amazing accomplishment for Downtown St. Louis. Looking at all the empty retail spaces downtown gives me optimism for the future. The fact that all of these developments are planning for future street retail means that they anticipate major job and/or residential growth in the near future.

Can't wait for the day that all the empty retail space is filled and buildings are rehabbed. Then we will begin to see all of that infill development everyone is lusting for.

I don't hate the skybridge that much. I think it's a bad execution, not really a bad idea. Back in the day (when the Centre was hopping circa 1989, I used to love standing in the skybridge, looking west down Wash Ave with the cars/pedestrians going underneath. When this corner was happening, this bridge was cool.

I think the solid east wall is a huge mistake and the materials/structure are too heavy for the ornate facade of Stix. Having recently been in Mpls, I like the habitrail layering that goes on.

This type of architectural levels is really cool in other cities. Minneapolis Skyway, Marta station over I-85/75, Singapore and Lower Whacker.

I posted this a while back. When I said 'I don't hate the skybridge that much' well, you all can call me a liar. The difference per RBB's before/after is well—I'm glad it's gone.

Oh, and the Century garage as well. Yes, yes, yes and yes, I'm aware of all the issue surrounding that development, but as a garage is likely the most attractive in downtown.

Wow! Those pix are fresh off the griddle! Was walking around DT about an hour ago watching them install the (so far one) glass panel on the SE corner. And you got it posted already.

Looks great! They're hitting their stride on this. The Wash ave entrance is getting drywalled and marbles going up. And I was hoping a CVS would go in there. (Okay, I was hoping for an Apple Store, but hey-)

Although I'll never warm up to the idea of another parking garage downtown, this is easily the most attractive one, and it's amazing how much better this area of downtown looks without the skybridges over Washington Avenue and Locust Street. That area between Sixth and Seventh streets no longer looks like the dreary Gotham City streetscape where young Bruce Wayne's (Batman's) parents were murdered. Now, from the Eads Bridge to the east, or from about 20th Street to the west, Washington Avenue actually looks like the impressive urban street that it has been all along.

And even though I wish there was more life on Locust Street, it already looks a lot better, and Macy's will look much nicer once the hole in the facade is repaired.

^ Ironically IMAX will not be coming. Those are hard to come by. However, St. Louis is getting their 3rd Imax...in hazelwood.

Damn. Too bad the newest IMAX won't be downtown. St. Louis Mills in Hazelwood is a bit of a clusterfark in my opinion, although I go there sometimes to watch the Blues practice.

Progress on the Washington Avenue facade is sure fast! It won't be long until the work on that side is complete. Hopefully it won't take too long to attract retailers either.

Thanks for the pics! Not all of us are currently in town so the updates are awesome!

I really like the corner retail entrances...I wonder if there will be video boards above them as I saw in the artist renderings...? Would make a kewl marquee for the movie theater if one is going in...

Personally, I don't thing the paneling looks that bad in the photo...

If we could also replace the rusty, old street lights throughout downtown...

Check out the night shots of the garage, the building glows white.

This has to be one of the biggest aethetic 180's of an urban block anywhere. You couldn't get much more dark and forboding than what was there before with the skybridge. Now there's a handsome refurbished architectural gem across from a glowing modern gem (IMO).

Anyone else see the potential on this block and moving down towards the dome and Drury hotel.......

The Washington Avenue streetscape will be completed to the east in the next few years - street lamps, plantings, hopefully on-street parking.

The movie theatre is a go. It will be similar to an urban movie theater up in Chicago (don't know the name) that is also located in a parking garage.
