I can't wait for the Laurel to be completed. Def on my list of potential places I would like to live when I come to St. Louis!
There's a lot going on.
Interior walls (aluminum framing) are going in on the fifth (and I think sixth) floor. Looks like they want to get those done ASAP. Windows are going in. Lots of tuckpointing, and cleaning/scrubbing.
Looks like they made some two-part epoxy impressions molds of the cornice/lintel details about two weeks ago. One section of trim around the marble has been painted a bright ochre. Seems like they're testing the color. It's going fast.
Waiting for the replacement of the damaged sections and a good power washing.
The Centre seems to have another 6 months of demo ahead of it.

They've made pretty decent progress on the Centre fairly recently. They've started removing the exterior paneling on the Locust side, and the first floor of the south side of the building looks to be completely cleaned out now.shadrach wrote:There's a lot going on.

Now, if they could just get to that second skybridge...

Last weekend, I went on a tour of St. Louis to see all of the things reported on this website. I was floored when I was on Washington and could see the highway from 18 blocks away. It's amazing what the removal of the skybridge has done to the feel of Washington...it makes the street feel even more impressive.

Cool, I had a feeling that a Walgreens or CVS would choose this building.

Wow. This really is becoming an exciting project!
No more sky bridge
Laurel reno
Addition of a key retailer right on the doorstep of the convention center.
What a drastic change in a little over a year. With the addition of Culinaria and now (hopefully) a CVS downtown is once again a "convenient" place to live, visit, and work! How embarrasing to have to tell downtown hotel guests that they have to leave downtown just to get a script refilled, buy toiletries, etc.

Looks like the Laurel will be home to a St. Louis Blues Hall of Fame (music, not hockey), that will also include a bar and restaurant, a recording studio and classroom space.

But....
This is a common mistake, but for the 10,000th time, JAZZ AND BLUES ARE NOT THE SAME THING.PD wrote:Bluesweek gets started with a cocktail party on Aug. 26 at Union Station. The heart of the event is Aug. 27-28 outside the Peabody Opera House, where St. Louis jazz musicians will jam in sets ranging from an hour to an hour and a half.

Yes Jazz and Blues are 2 different things.
This is some of the best news we have had in 2010. I have always thought STL was missing out by not preserving it Blues heritage which is in the same league with N.O. and Memphis.
If done right this can be a wonderful destination. Hopefully they design it so it appeals to all ages and has some interactive stuff kids will enjoy.
We get another primary use downtown and fill the void in this area which helps connect Wash Ave to Lacledes Landing.

I think South Broadway would have been a better location - or South 4th Street. But I shouldn't nitpick.

About ten years ago, there was talk of building it on Laclede's Landing, which would have been a great place, too. Still this will be great for downtown.Alex Ihnen wrote:I think South Broadway would have been a better location - or South 4th Street. But I shouldn't nitpick.
hope that it will be a the corner of 6Th and Washington of the building .what a great first impression for tourist that would be .
metrolink stop 6Th and Washington and blues
Hey, the former Dillard's building isn't a part of the St. Louis Centre complex. So stop promoting that project in this thread and talk highly of the new parking garage. Ignore the horrible project over here as we distract you with the magic trick over there.
My only question is whether the new parking garage will have an illustration of Slay and Shrewsbury spending the night with John Steffen, only to have him gone in the morning with a large headache and tax bill for our City. Can Clayco fit that into the plan or is it too late?
