Saw the new sign at MX Movies going up on the way to work this morning. Thought about snapping a pic but I was running a little late. From the little bit I saw it seems like it's going look pretty nice.

Thanks for posting. It'll be great to see additional electronic LED boards along the Washington Avenue strip - and not just the awesome blade signs.

That's awesome. I really like projection component of it. Will add a lot of visual excitement to that block.

Does anyone know how much retail space is still available?
As mxstl promised here is a new tenant for the MX- Santo art gallery - should be a nice add to the mix-

Roger, I think the Biz Journal artilce link that Beer City posted references 5600 sq ft left after the foundation moves in. A pretty good article if you pull up the print addition posted on website, believe page 6/7roger wyoming II wrote:Does anyone know how much retail space is still available?

The article says that the two remaining vacancies are an 1,800 sf space next to the movie theater and a 4,000 sf space next to Robust (in the Laurel). Also, it says that a noodle bar is going in next to Takaya.dredger wrote:Roger, I think the Biz Journal artilce link that Beer City posted references 5600 sq ft left after the foundation moves in. But what about the huge space on the Locust Street side of the building?
Wow- that looks fantastic. Thanks for the video. Washington Avenue is coming alive at the MX. So exciting to see the MX District evolving. Would like to see another big video board or ticker facing west on Washington on the side of the garage area.

Good question. The last time the 600 block of Washington Avenue looked that vibrant, it was home to a store called Stix, Baer & Fuller. I can't get over how great that block looks. The National Blues Museum is really going to put it over the top in a good way. But I hope all of this momentum carries south. Aside from the vacant retail space along Locust Street, it'd also be nice to see some action at street level on the east side of Sixth as well as the Mercantile Library Building. Weren't those buildings supposed to be part of MX as well? I'm sure Macy's would appreciate additional retail and restaurants on the surrounding blocks if it'd draw more customers into their store.debaliviere wrote:But what about the huge space on the Locust Street side of the building?

video of it up and running:
It is my understanding that the folks at the MX running the sign will be coordinating with the CVC to display association and show logo's for the various conventions. It shows how the neighbors banding together can really create a sense of place. They are stronger together. Love the sign!
^Thanks for sharing. Baby steps....and every little bit helps.
I don't think there has been a movie theatre marquee and sign on Washington Avenue since the Loew's Theatre closed moons ago.

Just to date the above pic "Greased Lightning" with Richard Pryor, Pam Grier and Cleavon Little was released in 1977.

And Washington Avenue had a Lane Bryant. What a weird place the late 1970s were.ntbpo wrote:Just to date the above pic "Greased Lightning" with Richard Pryor, Pam Grier and Cleavon Little was released in 1977.

If I'm not mistaken, the M O V I E letters are timed to light up one by one spelling out the word. Adds a lot of vibrancy and is very eye catching. Love it!

I must admit I'm very pleased with how this entire project has turned out. We may have ended up with a giant parking garage but it's a damn sexy one.
