One sentence to describe the last month..... The Cardinals can't hit!!!

11-12 since they started 15-8.... I don't really care what cliches you want to use
'it's a long season', 'it's early' 'they'll turn it on when they need to', blah, blah, blah. ... This team is not hitting, it goes back to mid-late last season and it is now a serious issue. You get a solid 12 strike out performance, 1 run from Wainwright and you get shut out. For those of you that want to make excuses and claim they will come around, that remains to be seen. I for one, am very concerned and think there is more to it than a slump. I think impatience, lack of confidence at the plate and bad pitch selection, amongst many other things are killing the Cards hitters. It is tough to watch at times. Rasmus and Holliday are just brutal at times. This team may not even win the joke of a division NL Central, if they don't get out of this funk.

Pathetic hitting. Pathetic base-running.

Pathetic team in general!

They are showing signs of improvement, they actually scored 1 run. Now you have Walters going today and who knows who is starting the first game at Wrigley. Lohse is likely going under the knife, as he has been diagnosed with a rare muscle condition in his arm. Penny is injury prone and on the DL. I personally think Pujols and Holliday are injured enough to effect their play. Ryan, Schumacher and Rasums can't hit. Who would have thought things would go to h*ll like this, after the fast start. This slump is serious and maybe its not even a slump. Maybe its the true identity of the 2010 Cardinals. What you see may be what we are going to get this season. I hope I am wrong.

Plus Brendan "Doghouse" Ryan goes 4/4. Watch out NL.

Speaking of offensive woes, the Mets swept a Phillies team that scored 0 runs the entire series. Yikes!

I would gladly eat Crow if they ended up being very fine this year. I will be convinced when they repeat last nights performance consistantly over several weeks, against good teams. Let's see if hitting at Wrigley gets them going for the Reds series starting Monday. As always....GO CARDS!

Personally I think you guys are over reacting. We haven't been that good and we're still in first/a game out of first. When this team get humming everyone else will be in our rear view. This team is that good.

^That is what I thought last season and in heartbeat they were swept out of the playoffs by a lesser team, in my opinion. I think there are serious issues, whether it be fundamental or injury related. The pitching has been great, but until Penny comes back, I am worried about that too. Also, let's face it, Carpenter is losing velocity and is not going to be the dominating pitcher he once was. I love Garcia, but can he stay healthy? I agree, on paper, this team should be fine. However, going back to the last quarter of the season, excluding April, this has been the way this team has played, mediocre at best. Again, I hope you are right and we are overreacting.

The Cards have been scoring a lot of runs lately. I hope the bats are starting to wake up for good. Unfortunately, they didn't get good pitching last night. Why the h*ll are they pitching to Rolen? He is on fire! He obvious has a chip on his shoulder when he plays the Cards. Anyway, if the Cards can keep hitting and guys like Ryan, Holliday and Rasmus can stay out of slumps, this team will continue winning, as they have over the last week.

Suppan released today by Brewers...maybe Duncan can get him back to form, for almost nothing...Brewers are eating his salary..Couldn't be much worse than Kyle Lohse.
I dont think the Cards are comfortable with fielding one of the 2 rookies in the rotation all season. Just a thought, low cost one at that!

Regarding the Cards, I have no confidence in this team and their ability to do any damage in the playoffs, much less win the division. They can't field, can't get timely hits, have too many holes in the lineup, are now full of injuries, traded away one of their best hitters and overall players for a #4 pitcher, have a tired and weak bullpen, a manager that overthinks things and loses games for the team and slumping stars. (slumping compared to past production). Holes in the line-up: Ryan, Molina, Skip and the pitchers spot as expected. Rasmus is streaky, Matt H. cannot drive in runners in scoring position and Pujols is Pujols, but not the same .320-.330 Albert.
Shall I go on........weak farm system, GM, manager...etc...etc...

I hope to eat my words, but I don't see them winning the Central Div. If they do, they are not going far. It would take a 2006 type miracle. I don't see that happening. This team is nowhere near as fundamentally sound!

I thought Jim Edmonds would have been a good fit in STL, to replace Randy Winn. Obviously, John Mozeliak's sticky trigger finger has come back to bite the Cards again. With Edmonds, Rolen and Jocketty in Cincy, they have a lot to prove and a vendetta of sorts, to beat Larussa and the Cards. It is going to be interesting to see if the Cards can gain ground and win the series against the Reds. Get swept and we are looking at a 5 game deficit, with the Reds on fire and playing a weak schedule the rest of the way. This is as crucial a series as you can get in August. The central Division race is on, starts tonight!

GO CARDS!!!!

I would have liked to have Edmonds over Winn as well. How many runs has Winn cost us by playing so deep in RF? In the loss against Colorado a few weeks back and in a couple of other games, it's made the difference in the outcome of the game.

I'd also like to see Allen Craig get a shot at 3B.

This series could make or break the season.

Last nights game was one of the most entertaining regular season games I have watched in a very long time. What an atmosphere! I think Phillips is a punk for saying what he said! How unprofessional is that. I am sure the Reds vets were not happy with him and his mouth. I was shocked to see Rolen in the mix. I think he may have some major anger towards the Cards organization, for the way he was let go. I know he was the peace maker at the start and finish of the brawl, but it looked to me like he was going after Carp when it got heated. I was so worried about Carp's arm, as well as other star players getting hurt. How dumb is it for star players to get in the middle of these brawls. I respect Yadi for standing up for the team and not kissing Phillips A**. He should be angry. It is not like what he said can be taken lightly, is what it is. Cuato should be suspended. He is the only one that should be suspended, for kicking like a little b*tch. Talk about b*tches!

It was great to see the Cards come out and spank the Reds after the brawl. If they can get a win today, with their ace on the mound, this could be a huge turning point for this team. This is the way you would expect this team to play all of the time.
They play with heart and passion and look at what they accomplish.

GO CARDS!!

I don't know if Tony was serious when he said he threw up four times during the game, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me. Let's hope for a sweep today!

One thing I do have to point out is that I do not like Larussa's behavior postgame. He always gets angry with the media when they ask simple questions about the game. He defends his players to the death, even when he shouldn't, then gets mad when anyone is critical. He yelled at Jim Hayes last night for asking about the brawl. Why the h*ll wouldn't he ask about the brawl!!! Tony needs to check his ego at the door!

Or the media need to stop asking the same stupid questions over and over and over and over.
