The game running right into the headliner and arch fireworks after. I really thought we should’ve gotten the game for the 250th game since Cubs got it last year and Budweiser was the main sponsor of MLB’s 250th. Instead our iconic Clydesdales were in freaking Chicago for the game on the 4th
Would almost certainly be a Fox game and national TV would show the grounds and the riverfront packed and people having a great time, instead of the Mets broadcast saying how dead it is or the Barstool Chicago guys constantly trying to create viral content talking about how much StL and the Cardinals suck
I don’t know, feels like a slap in the face by MLB but who knows what the communication is. Definitely could be a lot of factors

Could also have to do with the 4th of July mayhem we’ve seen in previous years (thankfully this year seemed to go much better), and the Cardinals not wanting to have fans leaving the stadium after games while that was going on downtown

Not being a StL apologist but this would be a bad reason. If we didn’t host MLB games in cities where there is 4th of July mayhem, there would be like 5 teams that could play at home at their stadiums way out from the city center
The Cardinals make plenty of money as it is from TV ratings for July 4th games in Chicago. They also get lots of business from people going to BPV on July 4 weekend. If you put a Cardinals-Cubs series in STL that weekend, that takes away a Cardinals-Cubs weekend series from somewhere else, which probably doesn't have a major holiday with events happening downtown. So I can easily see it penciling out as generating more overall revenue to have that series on a random weekend instead of July 4 weekend.
