Why to Restore Honor to our great country, of course. I think it's tomorrow on The Mall in Washington.

It's to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King.

Something like that.

Irony, I assume?

Y'all could have been much happier about the Cardinals had you just recognized the curse. It's an odd decade. Invest yourselves again emotionally in 2020. 8)

The Gas House Gang begs to differ though as a boy who grew up on the Cards of the 70s I'm inclined to agree with you.

Perhaps Tony LaRussa and Albert Pujols should've focused on baseball instead. LaRussa supposedly accepted the invitation to appear at Glenn Beck's event because he was assured it wouldn't be a political event. With Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin in attendance? Yeah, right. Anyway, the Cardinals have become almost as painful to watch as an event featuring Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. I agree with DeBaliviere, the Rams played a great game Thursday night, and it was the most fun I've had watching a St. Louis sports event in a long time even though I realize it was only a preseason game.

So the Cardinals finished the latest roadtrip with a 2-5 record against Pittsburgh and Washington. What in the hell gives at this point?

I've been saying it since spring training - Trade Albert and trade him soon. You cannot win in this league with 4 studs.

No surprise really. The KTRS experiment was largely a failure.

they were talking about this on the Point. apparently they're switching to KMOX so that they have greater range, right?
well, this is 2010. point your internet-enabled whatever to
http://ktrs.com/index.php?option=com_co ... Itemid=149
and click on "listen now", and there you go. i'm just saying.

Back during the move to 550: http://stlouis.bizjournals.com/stlouis/ ... ily56.html

Interesting last sentence:
KTRS said it plans to move its station to a first-floor location in Ballpark Village when the development is complete.

Oops.

every smartphone owner has internet access in their car, as long as they're near a cell tower. and people in rural areas with spotty reception can use satellite broadband for their homes. i know this isn't a 100% solution, but worrying about radio reception in 2010? come on.

That'll get you everything on KTRS but the game. You have to pay MLB to listen to the Cardinals broadcast through their site or one of their mobile apps.

I would think the vast majority of the people that are out of KTRS range and are still interested in listening to the game instead of watching it on TV or paying MLB probably don't have a smart phone to start with. Free is nice. I personally have a phone that is smart enough to do it, but I don't pay for internet access on my phone because I need to prioritize my funds for other things, like a rehab house and student loan payments. Then again, I don't often listen to games to start with because I can't stand John Rooney. He's almost as bad as Jay Randolph on Channel 5.

People who experience Cardinals baseball by tuning into AM radio almost certainly aren't going to be using computers or smart phones, assuming they even have them. I think some people forget that for a lot of older people, especially older people in more rural communities, there are no such things as "computers" and "smart phones." Not in their world. Others might tune in for the nostalgia of listening to a game on a radio. Or if you're just sitting on your patio, grilling, radio works really well. Believe it or not, but the antiquated technology of the radio is actually sometimes easier and more convenient than smart phones and computers. Plus, for all you environmentalists out there, a basic radio will use less electricity than a computer or smart phone. Yes, it's 2010, but not everything needs to be done over the internet.

What gave the Cards a national/regional following was the huge reach KMOX provided. I remember in the late-90s, I was in Disney World/Epcot parking lot, leaving the park around 9PM, listening to the Cards on KMOX, amazing!
Even though we are now in an age where radio is not as prevalent, you have to remember, in a lot of rural/off the beaten path communities, internet and technology are not prevalent. Those small towns in Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma etc....play a major part in the following that reaches well beyond The metro area or state.
KMOX gives that blanket coverage, where the KTRS affiliates did not provide that blanket coverage. I commend the Cards Org. for FINALLY doing something right. I sure the payoff is good as well, but we can only hope they stay with KMOX for a long time. I was very much against the move. Support from people all over the Midwest, is what makes the whole 'Cardinal Nation' seem less far-fetched.

I did my undergrad at Baylor. KMOX was hit or miss but I could get some games if it was late enough at night.

Also, listening to the ballgame on AM radio doesn't require a large initial cost for the smartphone/computer or monthly charges.

A conversation on KFNS this morning prompted me to ask this question. (Yes, they actually talked sports this morning on the 'Morning After show')

The Cardinal dilemma: Sign Pujols for $28-$30 million/year and build a less talented team around Pujols and Holiday (which is what we are seeing now) or trade him for a plethora of young talent and a few everyday guys? I would love to see them sign him and still spend money on the rest of the team, but I just don't see that happening, even if they only sign him for 5 years. The organization is at a MAJOR crossroads and the decision with Pujols will determine the direction of the franchise for years to come. I am on the fence. I ask,can you let one of the best players in MLB go? NO!!
Then I ask, do I want to see another team like the one they are fielding now? NO!!
You can see the dilemma that the organization is in. Any thoughts?
