I don't know if this subject has been discussed, but it is scary to see how many Cardinal players have been mentioned in the Mitchell report. It almost seems as if the Cards are trying to sign former steroid and HGH users.

Current

-Troy Glaus

-Rick Ankiel

-Juan Gonzalez

-Troy Kate

-Ron Villone

-Ryan Franklyn

Former

Fernando Vina

Gary Bennett

Cody McKay

Larry Bigbie

kent Mercker

Jason Christiansen

David Bell

I've said it before, I'll say it again - all the Mitchell report proved is that roids only enhances your natural abilities. It doesn't make you Superman. It makes a bad player average, an average player good, a good player great, and a great player phenominal. Without those drugs, 99% of the players mentioned in the report wouldn't have even cracked the bigs for a bench role. Guys toil in the minors for years just hoping to get a call up for just a few weeks.

While I would never do it myself, I fault none of these players for doing what they needed to do to get their chance. And ethics be damned, all of you would do the exact same thing for that kind of money.

I would smoke crack and snort lines of coke off of hookers' asses for that kind of dough, while kicking children, mind you.

I wonder what BD3 will bring to the team side with all his focus on BPV.

I will be home for opening day for the first time since high school and am planning on heading downtown for most of the day. Last year I left town the morning of opening day and keiner was already in full swing as well as various lots around the stadium. Any must-do's?

Based on what's happened at Ballpark Village so far, I don't hold out much hope for BD III as the Cardinals president.

It's just as well- I can't remember a time when I've been this uninterested in the Cardinals. At least I can look forward to March Madness in the near future. 8)

I would think this would be a time to be very interested in the Cardinals. What, because they are projected to win 72 games that means we lose interest? Let's not get spoiled by our recent success. The team is brand new- how can that not be interesting? Brand new says nothing about success, but with expectations so low, anything they do well should be all the more fun to watch. Baseball is back and I'm excited.

The reason I'm uninterested in the Cardinals has nothing to do with the low on-field expectations for the 2008 season. Some of the most enjoyable times I had at Busch Stadium II were during the relatively dark days of the early 1990s. I'd go into the reasons why I'm not excited about the Cardinals this year (ownership, management, Ballpark Village delays, dissatisfaction with some of the players that left and some of the people that stayed), but I think they'd be as well-received as Doug's rant against suburbia in the West County thread in the retail/restaurant forum.

I'm still very much a Cardinals fan, and of course I want them to do well, but I just expect to be watching from afar this year more than ever before.

so, um, iffy, i mean izzy needs to go. he no longer has closer stuff. well maybe, he's iffy at best. the one time i get to see the birds this year, isringhousen ruins it. i'd say put wainwright back in that spot, but he is doing very well as a starter this year. but they still have the 2nd best record in baseball. so it's not all bad, right?

I just want to know why Isringhausen is struggling, because he's still one of the better closers when he has his stuff. I didn't see the end of last night's game, but I know he's been really hot or cold with no in betweens lately.

The player I want to go most is Chris Duncan. Did anyone see his Bush League performance in left field the other night? I swear he'd be stocking shelves at Schnucks if his dad wasn't the pitching coach.

I'm with you. Ludwick, Ankiel and Skip are the three best outfielders we have. Even though Duncan had some big hits this weekend, I really wish we could unload him and have Barton be the first OF off the bench.
