This might be my last day to tell my favorite joke:

"The Cardinals can really relate to the Cubs. We actually have a lot in common. We both have yet to win a world series since our new stadium has been built."

The Cardinals made my 32nd birthday one that I won't forget!

Judging by my experience downtown, I think Jack Buck would be proud. This place definitely knows how to "go crazy"!!!

Where are those folks that swore the Cardinals were cursed after the demolition of the old Busch Stadium???

The gods of new urbanism allowed it after the story broke the BPV would actually go through!!!

I watched the game here in a bar with another St. Louisan I met by off chance watching the NLCS (along with like 5 other aussies). Furious I couldn't be there to celebrate. That said, I was drunk by 10am (when the live telecast started)

I want to play for St. Louis. Will someone please tell the cards to trade rolen to baltimore for me, straight up? I promise to lay off the B-12 pills.

In other news, Scott Rolen is a horrible human being and deserves to rot on the mendoza line. Man got railroaded out of Philly and is getting shoved out of STL for a reason - and it's not the managers. Petulant punk. TLR benched you in 2006 and turned you into a freakin machine in the playoffs - you don't think he knows how best to use you?

Whack job. Hit the road Scott, and don't you come back no more.

So the Mitchell Report comes out today. A list was leaked on WNBC earlier, but was pulled to clarify. I saw the list before it was pulled and there are some big names including a current Cardinals star (not Rick Ankiel).

http://www.wnbc.com/sports/14845845/detail.html

I don't know how I feel about this, on one hand it's good that this will close a dark chapter in baseball. OTOH, a lot of fans may sour on the sport(and for good reason).

KMOX said that Pujols may be on the list, according to their sources. NOT good for his legacy, the supposed "clean" era. That has been his claim to fame, that he did it clean. His record breaking seasons will be in question, sad.

I looked through the report and Pujols name isn't on the list. Only Ankiel and Ryan Franklin. Not surprisingly, McGwire is on the list.

I wonder if Ankiel will continue to be on the list, since he was cleared of wrongdoing by MLB.

Thank goodness for text-searchable PDFs. No way I was going to read all 409 pages. ;) (I really am surprized they didn't lock it).

The only reference to Rick Ankiel was to discuss the media reports of this summer:

Rick Ankiel

In a September 7, 2007 article, the New York Daily News reported that Rick Ankiel, an outfielder and former pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals, had ordered eight shipments of injectable human growth hormone (including HGH sold under the brand names Saizen and Genotropin) from Signature Pharmacy between January and December 2004. Ankiel

reportedly had been issued prescriptions for the drugs that were signed by Dr. William Gogan, a physician that the Daily News reported was affiliated with The Health and Rejuvenation Center of Palm Beach Gardens. Ankiel’s orders were shipped from Signature Pharmacy to the clinic. One of the owners of the clinic did not deny that the clinic had supplied human growth hormone to Ankiel although he added that “under the current policies in effect, no employee at this center is permitted or authorized to give medication, like HGH, to bodybuilders or professional athletes. That’s an absolute no-no.”

In comments to reporters after the story was published, Ankiel initially admitted that he had used human growth hormone while recovering from ligament surgery in 2003, but he then invoked medical privacy laws to decline further comment. Ankiel said that “[a]ll and any medications that I have received in my career has (sic) always been under a doctor’s care, a

licensed physician.”

Neither I nor any member of my investigative staff had any prior knowledge of any allegation about Ankiel. The Commissioner’s Office met with Ankiel on September 11, 2007 to discuss the allegations. On December 6, 2007, the Commissioner’s Office announced

that there was insufficient evidence of a violation of the joint program in effect at the time of the conduct in question to warrant discipline of Ankiel.

Whew.

Not bad for the Cardinals at all. Thankfully Pujols was not on it (even if it is possible that he has used in the past).

Little surprised they left all the old names on the list, such as Ankiel, but I guess that makes the list longer.

In fact, now that this is out, I like McGuire's chances at getting in next time.

It wasn't just them. That false report was everywhere. Even Drudge linked to it. Shows just how easy it is to manipulate the media in this country these days. Ridiculous.

Kudos to the Post and ESPN and everyone else that was patient enough to wait for the real report to come out. Also, kudos to George Mitchell and his law firm that actually managed to resist the instant information culture and announce it property in a press conference instead of just some leak. I am sure they had plenty of money waved in front of their faces. I guess Mitchell's law firm pays pretty well.

Um...ok, so, WHO THE F*UCK ARE THESE GUYS? I've heard of a few of them sure, but the majority are part-time players, bench warmers, or journeymen. Ok, yes, I'm on there, I expected to be, but seriously - we're getting bent out of shape over these losers? Ron Villone? Who the fu*ck is Ron Villone? Adam Riggs? Tim Laker? These aren't guys you'd pick up on the bottom of the waiver wire for your fantasy team if you had a gun to your head.

The only names on this list that I really care about are Pettite and Clemens. How suspiscious does it look now that a 47 year old was blowing away guys half his age - and that Clemens took Pettite under his "syringe" when they previously played together? Maybe their friendship was a bit mroe than just professional if you get my drift.

It isnt that they were dumb enough to get caught its just that they were supplied by the guy who got caught. There are probly lots of other players not connected with the Yankees, Mets and BALCO.

I totally agree. I was home yesterday and watched the newscast, which was almost completely devoted to reporting on this matter. Albert Pujols, Rick Ankiel, and Darryl Kile were mentioned several times as players that were on this list. Then they had someone reporting from Pujols 5 in Westport Plaza as you mentioned. As if that wasn't enough, the anchors spoke with Mike Shannon via telephone, who urged everyone not to jump to conclusions until the official list was released later in the day. Too bad no one at KTVI took his advice before the newscast went on air.

Then, when I got home late last night, I went to the Fox 2 website, where it said CNBC issued the initial report that had Pujols on the list. Oh, how classy. Blame the other guy, even when KTVI chose to run the story anyway while other local channels showed necessary restraint. The hubris and general ineptitude of Mothership Fox are also evident with our local affiliate, both of which are operated by trained monkeys anyway.

After years with Ozzie Smith at shortstop, the brief Ozzie/Clayton tandem, Edgar Renteria, and David Eckstein, we have to settle for Izturis? Oy vey!
