Regardless of his history vs Glavine it doesnt erase the fact he is playing hurt and is a big postseason disappointment since he came here.
There is more to his presence than hitting. He might be worn down, but I think that the Mets will still fear his bat in the lineup because there's always the chance his bat will find its spark (don't forget the 2004 NLCS). This means that they have to pitch to Albert more than they would if Spiezio or another bench player filled in. It gives us the Pujols-Edmonds-Rolen 3-4-5 and strikes more fear into the pitchers than a Pujols-Encarnacion-Spiezio lineup. The latter playing arguably better than the former, but there is always the chance that the former will do more damage.
There is also the issue of defense. Spiezio doesn't have the range or the arm that Rolen has. The Met's have a fast offense and we're going to need every second to keep them off of the basepaths. Having Rolen's arm out there will probably be the difference between an out and an infield basehit when batters like Reyes hit the ball into the infield.
Speizio has played great, but if we're going to get beat, let them beat us with our best. Speizio will be great for the late inning matchups, etc.
