I would love a Grove or Shaw microbrewery.

I'd also like to see a Shaw or Grove microbrewery.

I just think one with a fair amount of outdoor seating and Miss. River views would be a real attraction.

Had Cathedral Square "Iglesia Agave" against my wishes on Sat. Thought it would be flavored, its not... in fact it may be one of the best craft beers i have ever tried. Very malt heavy, your not going to want to drink a lot, but perfect for 1 or 2 pints.

Is CS still renovating the old playboy club?

Don't know. I've talked to some folks around town, and the consensus is that the Cathedral Square folks are somewhat of a squirrelly bunch. No one can figure out what exactly they are doing, including them.

I heard from an employee at Cafe Ventana that there is some doctor that owns Cafe Ventana, Cucina Ventana (Italian restaurant going in the handsome building just east of Cafe Ventana), and Cathedral Square. Apparently CS is brewed across the alley in the old Playboy club (using the brewing equipment from the old City Brewhaus and Grille). These are rumors, but the book St. Louis Brews confirms.

The address on the bottles is some town over by Kansas City, which only adds to the mystery.

Dr Gurpreet Padda also owns Chuy Arzolas and Sanctuaria in FPSE.

Not a mystery. The draft is brewed on Lindell- at least that's what the brewmaster told me- and the bottled stuff is brewed in Weston, MO.

From the article:
"Lemp Brewing Co. had expressed interest in the space when Steins Broadway Inc. and Rothschild Development announced plans for the project, according to a 2009 P-D story."
Whatever happened to the Lemp Brewing Co. (reincarnation)???
They still have a website, but I can't find the beer at any local grocery stores. Does Dierbergs still carry Lemp? I know ShopnSave and Schnucks don't have it because I've been watching for it there and it is not available at either store.
Also, the website has not been updated in a LONG time. Wonder why they have not marketed their product much. Griesedieck is doing a much better job.
I bought 2 six-packs last night at ShopnSave.

O'Fallon seems to be back on track: After struggles, O'Fallon Brewery back on path to growth
After growing for most of a decade, St. Louis’ second-largest craft brewer hit a wall. Its co-founders ran out of cash. Beer-making ground to a halt. Six-packs on store shelves dwindled.

But now O’Fallon is on pace to sell more in 2012 than ever before. And next month, the company will launch a new brew, its first since the near-death experience.
The other thing O’Fallon is planning to raise its profile is a new home, something with a bit more presence than its yellow warehouse in a little industrial park off Interstate 70. Beer-lovers come by — even though a sign on the front door says they don’t give tours these days — but Gorczyca said he envisions a bigger brewing facility, a proper bar, and a nice place to eat. Probably to open in the second half of next year.

Schlafly plans expansion, in the next 5 years-

http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/prin ... -grow.html

Want to increase production to 100,000 to 200,000 BBL's per years, currently about 45,000, will require a new brewery.

^ The old Lemp Brewery complex or any re-use in the core would be good.

Schalfly article from the P-D, for those without a Biz Journal subscription.

I wonder if the Armory site would fit them, size-wise. I'd love to see something more active there, plus it's another drinking place I can Metro home from, no need to find a designated driver.

^ That would be awesome - the Armory as a brewery!!!!!!! I think that if/when Schlafly builds again, they're going to be looking at a larger site.

There's plenty of room to expand around the Tap Room. They could be the north anchor of the new 22nd Interchange development. 8)

From the P-D article:
Schlafly brewed nearly 900 barrels off-site last year and have deals in place with breweries in Wisconsin, Iowa and Tennessee that will give them room to grow by thousands more.

There are certainly a lot of local breweries outsourcing their actual brewing out of state. It would seem there'd be quite a demand were someone to set up such a contract brewery somewhere in the area...

Evan Benn with a nice article about local breweries ramping up production. We could support a contract brewery here.

^ Exactly. With craft beers taking off everywhere, a contract brewer could really put STL back on the map, in even a bigger way than craft breweries.

I was surprised how tiny they all are, besides Schlafly.

Not sure who has the money to build a contract brewery. I'd say you'd easily be looking at $100 million. Most of the contract brewing done now is in breweries abandoned by brands that mostly no longer exist.

Though not a craft beer manufacturer, I'm kind of surprised no one's mentioned the William K. Busch Brewing Company. It launched, what, November of last year? I tried Kraftig a little while ago and I liked it (though I'm no beer connoisseur). I'm kind of curious how well it's been received in the metro area and regionally.

^ As I understand it, their aim is to be a better beer than Budweiser. :/

Kind of a cool story, though. It's hard to not cheer them on.

WKB Brewing gets mentioned regularly. "Sales are exceeding expectations."
