http://schlafly.com/blog/2012/12/26/we- ... afly-beer/Our brewing team also began the process of making further improvements to add brewing capacity at Schlafly Bottleworks, The Schlafly Tap Room and our partner brewers in TN, IA and WI who will provide much needed additional capacity for the next 5 years while we continue to consider a new Schlafly brewery and what are needs might look like....
The search for a site for a future brewery will go on. We see the need for a minimum of 40 acres. The search is limited to St. Louis City and County....
Exploring the idea of a small brewhouse, on site tap room and store in Chicago. As many of you know Schlafly Beer is not available in Chicago and we see a store front as a way in which we might introduce Schlafly Beer in the Windy City.

So... 40 acres in either the City or County... I really hope it is somewhere in the City and can revitalize an area. Other than that, the biggest news I see is there will be a Schlafly Brown Ale available!
and...... another-in an old repair shop on Russel in Shaw, should be a great beer garden

Looking forward to Heavy Riff in Clayton/Tamm neighborhood of Dogtown:

Heavy Riff Brewing Company should be open by St. Patrick’s Day, when Dogtown will be packed with thirsty folks.
Jerid ran down some of their beers.
American pale ale, called American Slang, brewed with orange peel and honey.
Oatmeal stout, with hand toasted oats along with some dehusked carafe chocolate malt.
Everything from classic 3 ½ percent session beers all the way up to 13-14 percent imperial stouts and barley wines.
A lot of Belgian Beers. We’re a big fan of barrel aging. We’ll get used brandy barrels, bourbon barrels, unused oak barrels and age beer in them, sometimes with fruit and bacterial yeast that will make the beer sour.
A hoppy blonde ale in the summertime.
Five gas taps at all times. One will always be a good cider, that we make. One will always be a lightish beer. We’ll always put good beers on tap from around the world.
New mirobrewey/brew pub to open is west county-

I always open up articles like this expecting to find that we're represented on the list. I feel that we will be very soon, it's inevitable.

I wouldn't be too quick to add Shaw Brewery & Beer Garden to the list. It seems there has been some pushback from some of the nearby residents with regards to noise, safety, and everyone's favorite... parking. There also seems to be another proposal to replace the commercial corner with residential. I also get the impression that Alderman Conway is not supporting the brewery due to the complaints.
In my opinion the residents concerns could be addressed up to a point. Yes, there might be less parking available. Yes, there might be minimal additional noise. I would be willing to sacrifice these for the additional safety that I believe would result. I imagine that the typical craft beer drinker is not a criminal, and the additional eyes on the street can only help. I was also looking forward to having a brewery within walking distance of home.
There was some discussion of the topic at a neighborhood meeting last night, and I thought maybe someone here would have some more details.

Hope they can work it out, a true neighborhood brewpub would be great, i keep on thinking of the UK where neighborhoods without pubs are not where you want to be.
This is a good building for reuse, and there are tons of places ripe for residential in Shaw already... Time to stop worrying about noise that will never happen and start building community

Unfortunate, but there are many locations in that area of the city that could work.

Anyone heard about this StL Brew Hub before? The Midwest location to be in StL?
http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/morn ... RXnqKeltwLBrew Hub lands L.A. investment
Yucaipa invests in Brew Hub LLC.
St. Louis Business JournalPrivate equity firm Yucaipa Cos. has taken a majority stake in St. Louis-based Brew Hub LLC.
Brew Hub plans to spend more than $100 million to build five new breweries and fill each facility with small brewers looking to expand, the Wall Street Journal reports
http://www.stltoday.com/business/column ... 5156d.htmlBrew Hub is led by a team of former Anheuser-Busch executives: Tim Schoen is Brew Hub's CEO, Jerry Mullane is president and Mark Greenspahn is vice president of operations.

I checked out the new Alpha Brewing which opened yesterday:

The news about Urban Chestnut is great! Once they are running at full capacity, we will have 2 breweries in the top 50, for craft beer. Now if Billy Busch would only find a location and break ground somewhere in the City. I know he does not want to be labeled craft, but any facility here would be big. He is spending a lot of money on TV ads.
The goal should be to reach the number of breweries, pre-prohibition. We have a a bit to go, to reach 40+ breweries, but St. Louis is surely a beer town and we are quickly approaching that number. Hopefully, once we do, the breweries will grow in size, get into that top 50 in production.
What a win for the City, the Grove neighborhood and the local brewing community/beer lovers.

Until stlien tells us where Schlafly is going, I'll keep throwing out ideas.
East side = 15 acres
West Side = 30 acres
Most of it is empty lots, but some of them are currently in use as Ameren and Nestle-Purina parking.

I think its safe to say that Paul McKee has reached out to these breweries looking at major expansion, especially Busch and Schafly. Also a large component of the Northside job plan is food production. In many circles beer is considered a food product. Just putting that out there.

^ and the reality is that there are few 30+ acre sites out there - and fewer still that are TIF ready.
Which is why McKee is confident in his ability to attract businesses to Northside. I actually expect a lot of these new "businesses" to be more of the food processing, warehousing, light manufacturing variety as oppose to the IT, biotech, white collar jobs that catch headlines.Alex Ihnen wrote:^ and the reality is that there are few 30+ acre sites out there - and fewer still that are TIF ready.
With the new river bridge, the reconstruction of the river docks, and proximity to major highways and the Central Business District, Northside is logistically in a very attractive place. The problem is the extensive amount of blight, perceptions of safety, and lack of infrastructure. Things a few bulldozers and a couple hundred million in TIF can change, and even though McKee says he wont use eminent domain.....dont hold your breath. I can see him truly turning Northside into farmland and giving some of the monied interest (that have been blowing up his phone that past week) a clean slate to work with. This may upset many preservationist but mass clearance and resident relocation is almost inevitable in a project with this kind of scale.
Another thing to look at is the endorsement he received from Lacy Clay today. This thing is moving forward in a way that many people are either unaware of or totally naive too. The lawsuit is settled and dont be surprised if you hear a lot more in the coming months and year. I've been hearing a lot of rumblings about St. Louis and the things poised to happen hear lately from people I know in logistics (specifically rail, but also FedEx and UPS).
Where is Gone Corporate when you need him?

How awesome would it be if Schlafly bought the Lemp Brewery? Is that even an option?
