The Wednesday night celebration is still on. I've heard they are within a few sales of what they need for financing.

On my way to yet another Rams debacle this morning, I noticed some workers on the roof of the old Erlich's building. It looked like they were in the beginning stages of demolishing the building, and they had the sidewalk blocked off as well. Looks promising.

I'm going right now to get some pics of Ehrlich's Dry Cleaners on it's last day. Unfortunately I have a class during the ceremony time, and I can't skip this weeks class.

Unceremonious demo continued as I walked by on the way home around 5:30. I don't expect to see much left next time I pass.

Hopefully they'll get to real ground-breaking quickly - empty lots don't excite, and that's a critical intersection for downtown attention.

I got some pics last night, but most turned out blurry like I expected because my hand wasn't stable. I'll get a few more today.

They have Shyhouse ads all over the mens restrooms at Scottrade, Ed Jones and Busch.

^Some coffee probably would have helped.

The whole west wall is down, and quite a few of the bricks have already been palletized. I would expect a fairly quick demo, but Bellon is saving all of the brick so clean up may take a little while.

I was wondering why they removed the piece of equipment that was demolishing the building? Is it needed somewhere else? It would seem like this would be a fairly rapid demolition, as this is a relatively small building.

This is one of the few instances in which I'm actually happy to see an old building torn down.

Salvaged brick is a big business - thus brick wranglers on the northside.

I agree. I hope the Marte Shoes building is next. I've bought a plenty of shoes from them, but that building is ugly and outdated.

Maybe that one would just benefit from a face-lift. The McGowan Bros. cut windows into the side of the loft building next door (the one that houses Flannery's), so it would be hard to build anything over 1-2 stories on that site. It probably wouldn't look so bad if the bars were removed from the windows and the fake stone was taken off the facade.

I love the Marte's Shoes Building. It's so gritty.

Now, the Manovsky, or however you spell it...move them on out.

This intersection has the potential to become the liveliest in downtown, depending on what happens in the near future. If the shoe building is torn down and replaced with a 10-ish story building with big glass window retail on the bottom, and the other two corners add some class, this will be a great intersection.

Edit: Allready lively, has the potential to explode. Much better.

FYI, SkyHouse is at ~25%, with several leads from last week's demo party and the loft tour. Need to get to 40% to break ground.

At the tour they said they started demo about 4 months earlier than they originally planned.

Translation: Maybe if we come up with an excuse to throw a party, we can generate some sales. :)
