When I was driving by the building on Friday, it looked like they were starting on the cylinder on the top.

Tell you one thing, this beauty looks awesome driving down I-64.40 Westbound from downtown/midtown. It completely enhances the West End skyline and the new towers (Lindell and Renaissance) just up the street will even be taller.

From my window, I count 26 floors, with a set-back starting at 24. Windows are in up to about floor 16. It does cut a striking figure on the skyline, does it not?

I saw it while driving down Laclede, heading west from Vandeventer last night, and it really is going to be a great addition to the CWE skyline.

Yes, it really is making it's prescence known. I was going to try to get some pics this week, but the weather has been nothing but crap. Hopefully next week.

The glass is becoming visible from the highway now. Pretty soon, the Suburbanites will see a "shimmering emerald jewel" on the CWE skyline.

Are any of these new buildings going to block Park East Tower views to the park, or are all the new buildings being built east of the Park East? And, out of curiosity, when people buy units in these buildings, shouldn't they be concerned about losing their views in 5-10-20 years when somebody builds a tower right across from them? Is it just a roll of the dice or is there something more to it than that?

The renaissance and Lindell condos are both due North of the Park East.

^I guess you're refering to the Mills project and the other Opus. They will both be on Euclid, going north from the Park East, and not east or west, so no, the view of FP will not be blocked. Mills project will be at NE corner of West Pine and Euclid, and the other Opus will be at NE corner of Lindell and Euclid.

Even if a condo's park view were partially blocked by a future building, would this really hurt its value? When I lived in a skyrise in Chicago, I much preferred a city view to a park or lake view. The city view was breathtaking 24-hours a day, whereas I could only appreciate the park/lake view during the day.

Don't worry Dashalove, it is unlikely that the buildings between the Park East and Forest Park will be replaced with high-rises. Not for a very long time, if ever. I don't anticipate the destruction of the ABCs or any other building east of the Park East.

^Expat, have you forgotten the surface parking lots on Kingshighway between Lindell and West Pine? Prime real estate, and I would think that soon there could be an impressive structure built on one if not both lots, unless, heaven forbid, something would happen that would halt interest and development in the CWE. A tall structure on Kingshighway and West Pine would block the view from the Mills project. But you have a valid point on the existing buildings. I also hope these remain, but I'd love to see those empty lots developed with something impressive.

Also, Zezuz, you make an excellent point. Urban vistas are just as important as park views. Not everyone wants to look out the window and see grass and trees.

No, I haven't forgotten about those empty lots on Kingshighway. They have been a thorn in my side as long as I can remember  .

But, no matter what they build on those lots, it won't effect the view of Forest Park from the Park East - which will have a direct view west over the Parkway Apartments and the ABCs. Besides, nothing would make me happier than to have the Kingshighway lots filled and blocking someone's view.

Here is a shot I took in front of the Library and around the CWE. The tower looks different from other angles so I will try to get pictures from those angles as well.

From library: (sorry, it won't rotate on that photo site. It shows it being upright but it is loading this way. Just turn your head. :) )

Around CWE:

Does Forest Park Parkway go from six lanes to four? Why didn't they rebuild the bridge or scale down to just four lanes the whole way?

It's four lanes. You're seeing an entrance lane there.

Great pics. Great perspectives shown.

But like SMSPlanstu, I am wondering why didn't they replace the bridge(s) along the Parkway. Are there any plans to? I know this is about Park East and should be split into the appropriate topic, but sheez.

I can't wait to see this building show up on Google Earth. Anyone not familiar can check out the neighborhood from a bird's eye view. Right now the satellite pics are still showing the old parking lot there.

Quick question, does anyone know what building is on Kingshighway btwn Laclede & Forest Park Ave. It's in the middle of the block with small parking lots on both sides, and the roof is green.

Dashalove, Do you mean Montclair on the Park? montclairapts.com

18 S. Kingshighway Boulevard

I used to know people in one of the penthouses of this apartment building. They had a huge terrace and incredible views.

Masters & Johnson used to have their office on the first floor of this building - or so I have been told.

Google Earth still shows the old Busch Stadium with a parking lot south of it. I wouldn't hold my breath on the update.

I don't know, but I suspect there may be a delay on how quickly high-rez satellite images can be released to a system like Google earth or maps -- for 'security' purposes, of course. If not, maybe they're just too cheap to buy and tag images as frequently as we'd like. :P
