maybe they rethinking their strategy due to stiffer competition now or maybe they want to focus on other areas. I would love to start seeing more investment in NSTL..

According to the Post-Dispatch "Bad Dog Bar and Grille" is closing. Surprised they made it that long in that oddball spot.

Yeah. They really laid the groundwork for a lot of the success that is going on. Maybe they're looking to greener (i.e. more rundown/less discovered) areas to do it all over again (like NewSTL said). Or are rehashing the Newstead/Manchester plan you mentioned. Either way, it'd be great to see them keep doing what they've done before. Between the BJC/WUSTL Medicine endless expansion, Shriners Hospital opening, Boyle Metrolink opening in 2017, Cortex's continued growth, IKEA opening, Highway 40 reconstruction wrapping up, the 4001 Chouteau, 4321 Manchester, and Midtown Crossing proposals, the continued rehab and new construction of 1-4 family homes, the fact that it falls within the City Garden Montessori School catchment area, the addition of a hotel, and UCBC's recent arrival, The Grove/FPSE has an enormous amount of upside.

Interesting. It seems as though the alderman is somehow involved in the organization? As a community development organization, what do they do? Sorry, still confused!

The Gills have been focusing a lot of their attention on Davenport, Iowa.

So it turns out the Saint Louis Immersion Schools is the one interested in the super-potential warehouse building at the NW corner of Tower Grove and Vandeventer currently occupied by Suburban Packaging:

http://preservationresearch.com/current ... -building/

It is great that SLLIS continues to grow (I assume that this might be for a middle/high school) but I'm far from excited about this possible conversion of the Woodward & Tiernan Printing Company Building. First, I think it would be much more productive as a mixed-use re-use. And second, looking at UIC's vision for Vandergrove, you can see that it calls for the removal of some existing homes north of the would-be school for a soccer field and the removal of the Columbia Iron Works on the other side of Tower Grove for school parking.

This removes a lot of prime acreage for residential/mixed-use redevelopment for a single, non-tax paying instution. Bad idea.

Vandegrove = fascinating. I love the subtle nuances of that website. For example, we see the new neighborhood designation of "Botanical Heights" next to the old neighborhood designation of "Forest Park Southeast"

NextStl sources tell me that the St. Louis Immersion Schools project is dead.

^ That's a relief. I hope they can find a candidate for a more suitable conversion.

Maybe they'll do something about those obnoxious LED lights at the "vape" shop.

Rehab's owners have purchased the bad dog bar building. The concept sounds better and even more inclusive of all gay, subculture groups, not just leather but country dance, etc.

And another rehab by the Gills. Man, the Grove is on a roll right now. Not many spaces will be left on Manchester soon.

^ hopefully the Gills will move forward soon with the corner building on Tower Grove where the book store was.... its a big downer to have a boarded up building at such a prominent location. It'd be great to see rehab underway by time the bank opens across the street.

PostJan 20, 2015#241

The Reliance Bank should be opening before too long.... looks like they just got the neon sign on site today; overall the rehab looks really nice although I could do without their logo painted on the west facade. The hotel is also moving along.

Looks great. It's not the most novel or eye-popping sign, but neither are a bunch of these:

I was just checking out Reliance Bank's website. Not to be a total cynic, but I have to think them opening this location is a response to the Community Reinvestment Act. Whatever their motivations are, it's good to see them coming into the City and investing in a historic, high-profile building.

Looks great. Kind of a best case scenario on a bank coming to the neighborhood.
