^ Looks like a piece of the puzzle came into place as per green light to demo existing building if a building permit is issued

I for one believe that the "donut building" is a cultural landmark and a worthy cause for historic preservation.

It's not a cultural landmark. In what way do you think it's a cultural landmark?
I rather see good projects like these sprout up all over the city. While the big to large projects get all the hoopla it's the smaller projects like these that actually connect ignite awaken a once dormant neighborhood like the grove & beyond.
I just can't believe how much it has changed since i was kid..
Now if Slu will get its act together. Has all that vacant land primed for development..

I'm glad to see this building reutilized, but I don't love the traffic flow/curb cuts. Not sure if it could be improved, though. Any suggestions on how to better handle the parking lot/drive through/curb cuts?
But no work has begun on it yet; was curious if anyone knew if it was moving forward or not.

I passed by both sites today. Commerce bank is coming along with some sort of foam insulation on the outside of its walls. I missed what is becoming of the old site next to it? A tear down and redevelopment? A parking lot?

Also, at the reliance bank site, there are temporary fences around the whole building. Are they starting work there? Last I heard they had to keep the bicycle pictures... is that project going through?

Also the old Swedish building / new look a like kinda Swedish building is up and has electricity running in it. Prob only a month or 2 before Subway opens there...looks like enough room for another business to go in there as well...

^ iirc the second floor will be office and the one in Soulard will be residential. I'm pretty impressed with the project for what it is, although the added in/out traffic will be pretty crazy.

Down over on Manchester & TG, the bank project is moving forward in earnest with the building being fenced. I hope the Gill's get moving on the building(s) across the street before long.

Has the Hotel at Taylor & Chouteau been approved? Looked like they were pumping concrete at the site today.

PostSep 06, 2014#211

Goat answered my question in another thread. Yes, construction has started on the hotel:

Next question, what are the chances that construction starts on the three corner retail & office building? That piece seems to fit the corner well and makes the over all hotel/street development along Taylor so much better.

Heck, extend the retail & building along Chouteau and put up a small structured parking garage on the remaining surface lot area for both the hotel and office/retail building.

Looks like It won't be built as it is planned for parking to service that mixed-use proposal across the street. Not sure about progress on Jason Deem's plan for the Empire Restaurant on Cherokee. But a Detroit developer hopes to get a conditional use permit next week to begin work on this Corktown development:

I really don't see the fascination with shipping-container architecture. IMO, it just looks cluttered, junky, and cheap.

I think it will be cluttered, junky and cheap. I have been around, in and out of a lot of shipping containers and can't picture them as livable spaces

David Bruno adding gallery space in a pretty nice addition to the Vandeventer stretch of the Grove/FPSE:
http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/a ... 45780.html

S. Vandeventer is rough on the edges (and the street is rough on the tires) but has a lot of potential and its great to see things already happening like this and the tech firm moving in a bit further down. IIRC their should also be some streetscaping coming up ahead of the IKEA opening so that should help even more.

Incredible someone is going to spend $500k on a house four blocks south of Manchester at Newstead and Hunt. The plan is to integrate the little house already there into a bigger one.

Pretty amazing developments happening in both FPSE and McRee Town... and the funny thing is that none of this action is being pursued buy the Gills. I wonder why they've been so quiet after the pull-back from their Newstead/Manchester plan.
