We'll first of all it's not red brick. If you actually go down to look at it, it is made of of some kind of sheet metal. It's reddish brown (I think it just looks brown). I'm hoping that they have some type of a glossed silver metal type finish underneath and the brownish color is just a covering, IMO a silver streak would look fantastic against the slick glass on the South side. Once again, NOT BRICK.
Thanks for clearing the air on the material being used. I like it a bit more now that I know it's not brick and it's not red. (not that I have anything against red brick, I'm just tired of seeing shades of red brick in all of our new construction)
The base of the building, the parking garage, so blatantly contrasts with the tower in terms of space and materials that it really overpowers the tower. I was optimistic but the base is aesthetically horrible and ruins the tower.

The base is sh*t. I agree. I agree with the use of the brick in the casino element of this project, as it transitions well from the landing and matches up with the hotel they are renovating with the Fish Market. I think this is going to combine to make a very classy, established look when finished. The tower just looks horrendous right now though from ground level. The parking structure/white face abutting highway 70 and other areas is just CRUSHING the overall look of this building. Should have gone back to the drawing board for sure. I'm holding out hope that the "light streak" up the side of the building will not be the color it is now. If it ends up being that color, I'm boycotting the casino and all things associated with Pinnacle for allowing such an atrocity to happen. Fingers crossed.
I'm thinking that is a protective cover on the light thing. I don't know how light would be able to get through with it as it currently is. Should be translucent.
^No kidding. I didn't even notice the "astrocities" that you guys speak of. I'm sure that most people don't notice, but they do notice the new glass tower going up in downtown St. Louis.
^Agreed. The fact that a new tower is going up is sure to impress many.

Once the ES is converted into Lumeire Hotel it will be used to house the invited guests (high rollers) and anyone else who get a comped room.

Are you sure? I thought the new tower as a Four Seasons would be the high-end hotel of the complex and the old ES would be the mid-line less expensive hotel. That's at least how the assistant manager of the STL Fish Market explained it this last Valentine's Day when my fiance' and I dined there.

Yes I'm sure... The tower will be managed by Four Seasons, so the comped rooms will be in the Lumiere Hotel.

So will regular people be able to even get a room at the old ES, or will it be comps only?

Anyone can get a room there. It just makes economic sense that Pinnacle would use the rooms that they manage for comps.

I realize that we are in desperate need of all the new construction that we can get, but honest to God, if that stripe going up the side of the building stays the color it is right now, it would quite possibly be the worst design choice made on any building I can remember in quite some time. Harsh would not be close to the range of feelings I would have towards this building if that is the final color. Blue/brown/teal-ish green. I'm not sure I can think of a worse color combination. I would rather see the building be purple. (ok maybe not really)

CEO Lee said at a presentation earlier this year that they would use comped rooms at the Four Seasons to attract high-rollers. Pinnacle owns both hotels so it doesn't really matter which rooms are comped. I can't see them telling some big fish whose used to staying in a suite at the Bellagio, "We'll comp you a room at the renovated Embassy Suites where you will have a great view of the brand new Four Seasons." That's no way to treat the big money.
Seems like the Embassy Suites would be more suited for frequent player comps, like those people that play the $1 slots and video poker every weekend.

makes sense to me, but what I heard was "The newly remodeled hotel Lumeire will be used for comped rooms."

I can't see much "big money" coming here. It's likely just the regular blue hairs, which is why it would make sense to comp them in the Embassy Suites.
bpe235 wrote:you guys are harsh
The length of the base is longer than the tower is high. It is horrible! The view of the glass tower, especially from highway 70, is totally destroyed by the garage.

True. His comment was along these lines...
IF THE LOSS LIMIT IS REMOVED, and for example the Chi Bears or NY Giants are coming to town, Pinnacle would call up their list of high rollers from that city and offer them a free flight, free room at the Four Season, tickets to the game, and a free meals at the city's top restaurants.

I see. I didn't know that is how it worked. That they actually call and invite suckers....err....I mean gamblers. I figured a "high roller" just showed up and got comped. Which was where I was coming from. I didn't think any high rollers would show up here instead of Vegas.

i'm not too concerned with how it looks from the back ... so long as it looks good from at least one angle is sufficent for me. the approach from of the east side should look pretty cool.

YEAH! Viewpoints such as this can keep stl in the architechtural basement for LIFE!
I could be wrong, but I personally do not believe Saint Louis is in the architectural basement. I love much of the style and variety here. In addition it is often hard to see how buildings will integrate with the surroundings before they have had a few seasons under their belt.

I agree. St. Louis has some of the most interesting architecture in the country. I think people are missing the whole point of this being called "Lumiere Place." Most buildings attract what attention they get from the daylight hours. From conception, this is a building that promises to show itself off at night. I'll reserve judgement until I see the finished product, because, as with the Day's Inn renovation, this could turn out to look much better that any of us anticipate.
^Agreed. I think St. Louis has some very unique architecture (such as the arch, planetarium, city hall, art museum, and lambert airport to name a few). I think it will be interesting to see how this project adds to our downtown, however I need to see the finished product.
