I keep wondering how long it will be before Ritz pulls their name off the Clayton property? Not just the exterior look, but the inside public areas and rooms just don't seem like other Ritz properties I've been to.

The Clayton Ritz announced remodeling plans a few months ago. I agree that it appears low-end for the class they are suppose to be in. The Four Seasons is going to blow them away. IMHO, the Chase already does. The interiors of the Ritz have always been out-of-step I think. Very old ladyish.

I guess I'll reserve judgment on this structure until it's actually done. Glad to see Four Seasons got the naming issues (with the Lodge of the Four Seasons in the Lake of the Ozarks region) worked out.

I agree. I'm excited to see something bright, shiny and new in this location. It is unproductive to criticize the design before the building is finished. Remember those people who thought SLU's new tower was going to remain bright green???

I disagree. Granted the hotel could use a few interior upgrades, as they are apparently undergoing, the buildout of the Ritz is the best hotel build-out in St. Louis bar FAR. Don't get me wrong, I love the Chase, but come on, drop ceilings in the lobby? The Ritz Lobby is the nicest in St. Louis. Personally, I would stay at the Chase over the Ritz because of the hotel's history, location, etc, but I think they could improve the main lobby area.

I agree with JCity. The Chase lobby has a fake Disney feel about it. I think the Chase pool is WAY nicer than the lobby. I think the Park Plaza lobby is fantastic, however.

^ Yes, it's time for the Chase to upgrade its lobby (and cheesy gold sign out front). Maybe with the condo conversion, the lobby will be next. Of course the condos will probably have their own entrance - or at least most residents will enter from the garage.

I walked through the lobby about a week ago and noticed it had recently been remodeled and was looking much better. The portion of the lobby by the Cinemas is still spectacular but was the origan entrance when the hotel was built. I memory serves, the area by the Khorassan Room has never been much to look at since it was added in the 50's.

From The Four Seasons Website:

Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis:

Opening early 2008

Bringing new cachet to the downtown riverscape, Four Seasons rises just steps from the Laclede's Landing entertainment district. Enjoy unrivalled access to stadium sports and the Lumière Place Casino, right downstairs. Then escape into Four Seasons tranquility – where views of the Gateway Arch and the Mississippi are as big as the Midwestern sky.

Classy presentation and personally like the tone of the paragraph!

Does anyone know for certain the "sh*t streak" as it is called, is in fact some sort of covering or is permanent part of the structure? I can’t tell from the webcam.

Well i'm back in cinci for another year again, so it would be terrific if anyone wanted to give this thread any picture contibutions. The webcam can suffice, but there is something about a personal touch on photos that tha makes them much better to view.

P.S. Info from bpe would be great, and I must admit, the tower looked great as I was on my way out of town across the poplar...until I got to about halfway across the river and "le streak de sh*t" popped into view.

I know with 100% certainty that the light feature has not been abandoned

don't know about the comb over

My guess is that the "comb over" still remains. If you look at the top of the structure there is bracing that appears to line up with the streak and indicate that it would protrude above the building into the "comb over." This is however only an educated guess, if I ever get time I will try to get a picture of what I am talking about.

stop the press's. Look, they have been changing so many things with this project I don't want to post anything and have it not happen. All I said to 2020 was that the light feature was still a go. We can't figure out what the Sheet streak . I guess Pinnacle had to start the project before much of the plans could be finalized. I'll see what I can dig up....

I got a close (~100ft) look at the sh!t streak today. It's a sheet metal of sorts, painted with what looks like a primer. There's also a type of groove or metal channel on both sides. My take is that this is the base to which lights will be attached and a class covering will be added over it. We'll see.

The Taste of St Louis festival's list of participating restaurants includes a Lumeire Place tent. Apparantly they will be previewing 3 new restaurants associated with the project.

While driving home tonight I was able to look up at the metal covering that is now being applied to the side facing 70. I could see through part of it kinda like it was made of mesh, guess we will just have to wait and see how it will lightup.

I guess I'm starting to see how they go from where they are now to the rendering above. Perhaps the Great Brown Streak is the anchor for the glass on the east side that will wrap around the south facade. The "comb-over" seems to be in place as well.
