The Admiral is history. Pinnacle has already said they are basically buying the Admiral for their experienced casino employees. They are building a HUGE new casino complex, and they have no interest in keeping a much smaller, off-site venue as well.

I sure wish somebody else had bought the Admiral and kept it as a casino. Two competing casinos would be a much better attraction for downtown than one big one.

Plus, I'd really like to see the Admiral stay on the riverfront.

^ If you and I can understand the value of two casinos, why doesn't the city? at the risk of sounding crazy, I will just say that it would not suprise me if there was more to that decision (to box out anyone other than Pinnical) than what is best for the Landing and the City.

In the words of Mayor Slay the Admiral is chunk of Tin.

I do believe we need a better casino, yet the Admiral could be made seaworthy again.

I was told last week about a possible plan for the Admiral. If it pans out, the plans for the admiral will blow us away. This is hearsay from an employee at a downtown museum, but I'll let you guess at what is up.

My guess: Matt is talking about some idea to make it residences, but who realy know. If Cassily got his hands on it, maybe we will end up with a futuristic Noah's Ark somewhere in Town.

Very interesting article in today's St. Louis Business Journal about the new name of the Pinnacle Casino.

Pinnacle names downtown development, unveils new plans

St. Louis Business Journal - 2:34 PM CST Thursdayby Lisa R. Brown

Pinnacle Entertainment's $430 downtown casino resort will be known as Lumiere Place. Pinnacle also announced subsequent phases to the 20-acre development, that could top $1 billion on the site north of Laclede's Landing.

Construction is underway on Pinnacle's hotel and casino, which is expected to be completed in November 2007. Additional phases, which include eight residential buildings totaling 375 condos, and 220,810 square feet of commercial space, will be built after phase 1 opens based on market demand, said Pinnacle Chairman and CEO Daniel Lee.

The Jerde Partnership, based Los Angeles, was named master planner of Lumiere Place.

Making use of the French word for 'light,' every aspect of the mixed-used development will incorporate Lumiere Place in its branding, including The Casino at Lumiere Place and The Residences at Lumiere Place, Lee said.

"We wanted to create a neighborhood," Lee said. "We need to convince people who live in the arc around the city to come downtown."

Retail tenants have not been signed to the proposed commercial space. The second phase of the development calls for a 35,258-square-foot grocery store, an 11,481-square-foot cafe and an additional 174,071 square feet of retail space.

A high-end luxury hotel with 200 rooms and a 10,000 square foot spa will be built in the first phase. Pinnacle has not yet named the hotel operator, but is in negotiations with Four Seasons.

Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. (NYSE: PNK) is a Las Vegas-based company that owns and operates casinos in Nevada, Louisiana, Indiana and Argentina.

The amount of residential and commercial space along with the grocery store seems to be new information.

Not to be a pessimist, but phase 2 of this development could be the death knell of the Bottle District or a sign for it to go back to the drawing board(again).

I hate the name they are using. Sounds like a development from Lake St Louis.

Great name! First thing I thought of was the Lumiere Brothers.

Since Pinnacle was earlier going to meet their residential piece by using already drawn-up Port St. Louis, I have the cynical feeling that this newly announced "Lumiere Place" really is the Bottle District.

I don't think pessimism is warranted unless you were somehow tied to the Bottle District. If this area gets residential, what's the difference? I don't, however, understand the grocery? Is all of this going to be located in the "bathtub"?

^The bathtub is only a small portion of the site, where the actual casino building will be. Everything else is built directly on the ground.

If everybody that said they were going to have a grocery store got a grocery store, downtown will have more grocery store space per capita than anywhere else in the world.

Today, MattonArsenal Development announced a new downtown luxury loft development. The MOA Lofts will bring a new feature that is unique to downtown developments and a first of its kind in the nation. "Our new lofts will feature a grocery store in every unit. Schnucks will come standard in each unit, but upgrade pricing will be available for Dierbergs and Trader Joes. Penthouse units will have the option to upgrade to Whole Foods. It limits the living space quite a bit, but we've heard the complaints and decided to do something about it. "

True. Because I'll believe all these grocery stores when I actually see them. As in "when I see them" as I walk in though the front door to buy something

True, and true.

Is the Trader Joes by Sluh confirmed?

I'll subscribe to the thought above and say that nothing's done until someone buys an organic low-fat vanilla yogurt. I think the question should be "how confirmed is the TJ's near SLU?" It sounds 'relatively confirmed' to me.
