Nevermind that it is the only new structure built in Downtown in the last seventeen years that didn't involve the Federal Government paying for it.

The only new high rise construction in the totality of the City of Saint Louis since 1990 has been:

1. The Four Seasons Hotel.

2. The Eagleton.

3. The Federal Reserve's addition.

4. The Park East Tower

5. 4545 Lindell.

6. The Northwest Tower at BJC.

7. The Center for Advanced Medicine at BJC.

8. The Doisy Research Tower at SLU Med.

Also:

-The Renaissance Grand. The east tower was new construction.

-Also BJC built the Charles F. Knight Emergency Trauma Center

-Roberts Tower

-McDonnell Pediatric and Basic Cancer Building (below)

-East McDonnell Specialized Research Facility

-BJC Bio Medical Research (2009)

The St. Louis region has built many since 1990. Many of the new low/high-rise towers built in the St. Louis region have been built in Clayton and Creve Coeur. St. Louis City, ironically, has built the most. St. Louis City has been in "recovery mode" for about 15 years with the older tall structures being saved and renovated.

I think once the economy recovers, it is no doubt St. Louis will continue to have new high-rise additions.

I went for the first time last Saturday and it was packed. At at Cielo, which was good, but not worth the money. The casino was PACKED and I could hardly find a spot at a craps or bj table. It was WAY too smoky, and the cocktail waitresses took forever to bring drinks. The cashier's line was really long too. Two of thos ethree problems were due to the crowd, so i can't really complain. I will go back.

It's funny how they advertise all of these different bars there - Aqua is a (not even) glorifed cocktail bar that is in the middle of a big open room, raised up one step and has the exact same same atmosphere and decor as the casino itself. I wouldn't have gone out of my way to name it anything other than "the casino bar". Same with the bar that was on the playing floor.

Oh the cocktail waitresses there are horrible, great to look at, but horrible if you actually want a drink. 8 times out of 10, I end up getting up from the table and getting my own drink. It doesn't seem to matter if it is crowded or empty. And when I ask the dealers or the pit boss, they just shrug.

JakeKTU wrote:Lumiere Place eyeing new concert venue

Lumiere Place may seem to have it all, but stay tuned for even more. Coming to an upstairs space in the new casino, in a room used recently to hold several St. Louis Fashion Week shows, is a small concert venue. The upcoming venue would keep Lumiere Place in line with most other casinos in the area including Harrah’s and Ameristar that have concert venues with national talent. The new spot would be in addition to the several restaurants, bars and lounges such as Sleek and Globar already at Lumiere Place. Michael Barker of the President Casino, who is overseeing the re-branding of the President Casino’s concert theater, is also involved with the nearby Lumiere Place’s upcoming venue. Both Lumiere and President Casino are owned by Pinnacle Entertainment. The two concert venues are being eyed to compliment each other with non-competing national acts.

I've recently heard that Lumiere is still considering turning that space upstairs into a sportsbar or an upscale club.

I know they are hosting a 4 day event with Huey Lewis this summer, so maybe they've decided on a concert venue, or maybe this is in addition to the other possibilities.

I would think that they could add a pretty kickass specialized concert venue into the plans for phase 2...just a though.

Neither had ever been to STL previously (but nonetheless believed it to be a "dump"). Anyways, they left w/ a great impression--took them to the City Muesum, CWE, Lafayette Square, dinner on the Hill, etc. They thought downtown was nice, and particularly were impressed with the new casino. Each had never seen a nicer casino outside of Vegas (and they go to Vegas a lot).

I had two friends in from New York over the weekend, we went to all the same places. I even showed them East St. Louis! They really liked St. Louis and were amazed at how large it was, compared to how large they THOUGHT it would be. Of course, they also said there's no other city like NY.. they want to come back though. drive anyone down wydown to Lindell, to olive, washington and most people would be impressed.

Funny. Used to take 170 to FP Parkway from airport to DT when picking up visitors. I especially love the stretch of FP Parkway heading eastbound from skinker. It feels a little NYCish thru this area... all the way past Kingshighway.

Excellent. My inner Patrick Bateman is excited about this.

Patrick Bateman: Do you like Huey Lewis and the news?

Paul Allen: They're OK.

Patrick Bateman: Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

Paul Allen: Hey Halberstram.

Patrick Bateman: Yes, Allen?

Paul Allen: Why are their copies of the style section all over the place, d-do you have a dog? A little chow or something?

Patrick Bateman: No, Allen.

Paul Allen: Is that a rain coat?

Patrick Bateman: Yes it is! In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

[raises axe above head]

Patrick Bateman: Hey Paul!

[he bashes Allen in the head with the axe, and blood splatters over him]

Patrick Bateman: TRY GETTING A RESERVATION AT DORSIA NOW YOU F****** STUPID BASTARD! YOU, F****** BASTARD!
The Lumiere ATM spoke to me again the other night. Sadly, I couldn't find a stray cat.

From this article (warning: alarmist headline!@!!11one) about Lumiere place:

•Pinnacle expects to open the tunnel connecting Lumière Place with downtown next week, gaining better access to 100,000 downtown workers. It also keeps adding

parking spaces as construction wraps up.

Driving out 70 (observations) this place looks huge and the new mammoth digi screen sign is going to look very vegas and nice on the drive into/out of the city along 70.

I also like the signs with the names of the restaurants / clubs facing the interstate on the side of the parking structure. Looks "alive".

Nice.

Also coming soon, Pinnacle said, will be remaining suites at HoteLumiere and a massive video messaging board along I-70, one the company called among the largest ever built.

The tunnel is still not open but looks close to being finished. I was down at the Dome for Webster University's graduation and we actually parked in the casino garage. There looked to be a number of workers busy with the tunnel on a Saturday

The walkway will be nice when done because it is kind of tough to walk from the Dome to the Casino.

I road my bike past the tunnel tonight and it's still roped off with yellow tape, but looks like it's almost ready to open. It looked like work was being completed on one of the escalators. The other looked ready to go.
