I think part of the problem is the low ceiling. I'm not saying they need to go two levels like Ameristar, but it seems very clautophobic in Lumiere. While brand new, it kind of reminds me of the old downtown Las Vegas casinos.

I'm pretty sure the design of the casino floor itself is very intentional to keep people there. Casinos are generally designed with very subtle details in mind to make people lose their sense of time so that they stay longer. They don't want the most aesthetically-pleasing casino floor as much as they want one that will make as much money as possible.

Visited the Lumier Place casino last night with a friend. Very nice colors, nice finishes, and well lit. The cigar and cigarette smoke was so heavy and disgusting however that we left smelling like ash trays after 30 minutes. Will NOT go back. Ugh.

Correct, the smoke smell suck5 as*. Interestingly enough I just got back from clib Fifthteen on 18th and Locust and we did NOT smell like any smoke! We are not sure if they just dont allow it, but we are so happy right now at 1am!

Going back to Casino's and smoking... in Atlantic City, since the State of NJ is smoke free, they dedicate a portion of the casino slot machines to smoking. Wish they had something like that here....

I went last week on a Wednesday foe the first time. It was a good experience, overall, with it taking 2 minutes to get our MyChoice cards, not real busy, but I think that was a good call for the first go through. None of the waiting and crowds that usually seem to cause disruption. The wait staff and dealers were all friendly and helpful. My only complaint was an obviously drunk girl sat down at our table and proceeded to ruin the game for all of us (my buddy and I were stoked to find a table that everyone seemed to know how to play) by hitting against bust hands and even splitting 7s against the dealers 6....aaargh! Worst is that the dealer would blatantly try to help her "are you sure?" "against what I ve got, really?" and the group was also giving her tips...but she wouldn't have any of it...

After she killed us for 4 hand s had to get up and leave. Luckily the roulette table was good for me and I recouped what she cost me...my buddy not so lucky.

Oh well, that is often the case at these places, so I really shouldn't complain, I shouldve just left after I realized she was a cancer.

PostJan 28, 2008#1457

As for the smoke, it wasn't really a problem when we went what with the tall ceilings, and way better than the Queen when it was a boat. With the non-smoking on the east side I guess the Queen is probably better, but I think its only a problem when there is a big crowd.

 It always cracks me up when people complain about how another blackjack player plays. It shows that they really don't know anything about the game. Other than distracting you or unless you believe in luck (in either case you shouldn't be playing blackjack - go play the slots) and slowing down the game (which can be good or bad), her stupid plays have no impact on your game. She is just as likely to help you as hurt you. Sure there will be times when the dealer doesn't bust because of her or she takes a stupid hit and takes the card that would have given you 21, but there are just as many times that it works the other way. People only remember the former though...

I'll assume this was a typo and leave it at that...if not, you really should find another game, or perhaps learn basic strategy.

I respectfully disagree. If the crappy player is at third base, it can really eff a game up.

^Nope. Statistically, it doesn't mean diddly.

I should have added...and it doesn't make one whit of a difference in which chair she happens to be sitting.

Personally, blackjack players that complain about how others play annoy me more than people that don't know basic strategy. Neither of them understand the game. How many freakin' times do I have to listen to people complain that I shouldn't have hit a 15 or 16 against a 7 thru A because I am sitting at third base?!?

The whole third base concept is a myth. It is my favorite place to play, but for other reasons...

Exactly. I get annoyed when people provide unsolicited help at the blackjack table. Poor play of others has no statistical effect on your expectation so let everyone enjoy themselves.

Here's a detailed explination of why this is true:

Wouldn't someone who is drunk and playing foolishly be the perfect opponent?

If someone believes in luck, they shouldn't even be allowed to walk around.

If I was playing poker, perhaps.

And jl, I don't exactly remember what she split against, but it wasn't a by the book play.

I also know its pointless to complain about said persons, for both statistical reasons and the fact that someone like her will always be there.

Still, when one is winning, by the book, and one person reverses said trend when they do not, you can see how all the myths are reinforced.

I'm excited to see the upgrade. Let's just hope they installed thicker glass on the rooms facing the MLK Bridge. The sound from 18 wheelers engine braking/downshifting as they come off the bridge is anoying.

Great pics, thanks.

The internally-lit pots and um, pillows?, rocks?, whatever they are, are amazing. Still, as cheesey as it was, the old atrium design had a much warmer, natural, and more comfortable feel to it. The new design feels cold and uninviting, like a hospital lobby or a shopping mall, which is the problem with a lot of 'progressive' interior design. The Four Seasons on the other hand, with its extensive use of natural materials, has a much warmer feel. I think it would have been much better if they had continued the darker flooring throughout the atrium. White/light grey always feels cold. Of course, you can't really tell much from a picture...

I would have liked for them to keep the potted plants on the balconies, but otherwise I like the transformation.

I like the new lobby. It looks warm and inviting to me: inviting to have a good time!

Also, the banner on the Four Seasons is being taken down as we speak. Now if we can get them to play with the lights a lot more we might be on to something.

Hopefully, they will, and are just waiting for new planters. That would go a long way in softening the space. Maybe the planters will be 'lumiered' as well... :)

the illuminated potted plants are not finished in the photo. There is still some more colorful plants to be addedd. Keep in mind the hotel is not completelty open yet. Keep in minf they only opened 25-50 rooms out of 300 so far. The rest of the facility is still under contruction.
