The Las Vegas-based casino operator used Tuesday's earnings release to announce a Dec. 19 opening date for its $507 million Lumiere Place casino in downtown St. Louis, pending Missouri Gaming Commission approval. The project is the first of several developments Pinnacle has in the pipeline that will carry the company through 2012.

Pinnacle said it plans a soft opening for Lumiere Place, with two hotels to open in phases during January and February, including a 200-room Four Seasons. Lumiere Place is just north of the city's Gateway Arch near the central downtown business district, the convention center and the Edward Jones Dome, which is home to the National Football League's St. Louis Rams.

The company said a second St. Louis-area casino, in the county outside downtown, should open in the first half of 2009.

Random thoughts:

Are the folks in charge of marketing Lumiere Place so lazy they can't even put up an accurate rendering of the hotel on their website?

Is the 'part' (west side, top) in the comb-over a permanent feature?

No I believe the space in the comb over is due to damage that occured to the piece when they were trying to install it.

There are openings on either side of the last piece that was installed. I would assume this was so the pieces could be attached. I would be shocked to see it not covered up.

^^I was referring to the two parts on the west side, not the hole.

Well, I thought that might be the case, but I would have thought they would have finished it before the crane came down.

Maybe they are too busy with the 700 billboards that they are advertising on around the area. Certainly getting our attention. Looking forward to the opening.

It looks like that the streak will stay brown. The webcam shows that they have started to install the covering of the overhead on the driveway in front of the tower and that it is the same color (brown) as the streak, which also matches the horizontal stripes near the base of the tower.

I guess the brown/blue-green combo is popular these days: wedding colors, clothes, new casinos

I think it will as well, but as I said already, I think it actually looks fine now that the streak is completed.

The streak on the east side of the building is rainbow speckled panels. Saw it last night coming home from the Queen. Pretty odd looking.

It looks great! I noticed the testing on my way to work, at about 6:45 am. Even with the ambient(sp) light you could see the colors very well. If you check out the web cam at 3:44 they had the east side and part of the top on.

I'm partial to the green and blue. Do they have set plans as to how it is going to be lit? Or will this be a color changing arrangement? Does anyone know if they will be able to display words on this as well (like the Grand Lisboa LEDs on a previous page)?

While I was not a big fan of the total design (with exception to the lit up hotel tower) of the casino, seeing much of it now constructed I would have to say it is turning out better than I expected it to. Once it is completed and Ballpark Village is finally built, downtown is going to be lookin' good :P

With the Grand Lisboa, you are looking directly at the LED lights, and there are a lot more of them. The comb-over is just a metal box with millions of dime-sized holes in it, and LED lights mounted on the interior - not directly behind the holes. So, unless they actually pasted colored transparent film on the interior of the sign - over the holes - I don't see how they could display words.

I am sure they will paint it, or take the protective coating off, or both, or neither, but I guess we won't know until it is finished, or maybe not until it has been open for a few years...

so, is the entire brown streak going to light up when it is complete? (i.e. the section running along the roof?)

when we get another prime time football game the skyline will look pretty good when the network pans downtown...of course that won't happen until the Rams get good again.

Aren't l.e.d. lights pretty efficient. They might keep the lights on all day, therefore making the brown a non issue. Think of how dirty it would get if it was white vs brown...

Came back from a weekend out of town and could see the streak lit up from Collinsville. It was changing colors every couple of seconds. Hopefully the trend has started because this drive in more than many in the past couple years almost all buildings were lit tonight. Such a difference. I love how the hotel tower drags the skyline northward.
