No reason to be sorry about that given the circumstances. Now, if you were getting that for a historic building demolition we would need to have a talk.

^ i'd trade most historic (not all) buildings for a 40 story building....would do it for 30.
I lived in Croatia and Bosnia where plenty of historic buildings were lost and those loses have had ZERO impact on the current situation or the counties future but the buildings that have replaced them have help shape the future of both, especially Croatia.

^ lovingly rehabbed historic buildings can have just as much impact unless the single desired impact is a massive increase in density. given all our vacant land, i think we can achieve healthy growth without demo'ing too much.

Haha, Beer City!

As others have said, it sounds like it's just a prediction at this point. Let's see what the residents of the St. Regis have to say about a 40-story tower blocking their precious park view!

You may have read too far into what I said. I didn't say if a historic building was being lost for a 40 story building. I just said if a historic building was being lost without any specific location to that building with the assumption that nothing was replacing said building.

It's my hope that NIMBYers don't kill it. They've killed a number of great tower proposals in the CWE. Enough with the small, restrained thinking and approaches to development already.

If they start complaining, supporters of the 40-story structure (if true) should show up in mass to support the developers. The Kingshighway site is perfect for a pair tower 30+ towers, in my opinion.

The good news for this site is that it's in a different ward than the NIMBY crowd. The north side of Lindell is in Lyda's ward. Lots of large single family homes in that ward, and they don't want building shadows falling on their gardens.

But the south side of the street is in Joe's ward. He doesn't need their support to do what he wants to do there.

^Also, the form-based code has no recommended height restriction for that lot. So while there could be back and forth on design or parking concerns - as there was for the Opus project - a height of 40 stories would be compliant with what the guidelines Park Central has put in place.

This perfectly encapsulates everything wrong with planning and politics in the City. 28 individual fiefdoms.

^ getting citywide preservation review (at least for buildings pre-dating a certain time) and design review for major projects seems to be bare bones needs for us.

As far as community input/NIMBYism, that will always be a difficult issue even when clear guidelines for neighborhood development are established. Neighborhood politics can be very messy and not just here.

^That's true, it's not a problem that only we have. We could take some very simple steps to make things easier and more uniform though. As you say, a City-wide system for preservation, design (and I would add incentive review) would go a long way towards helping.

This is the West Pine/Kingshighway project and not the adjacent Koplar owned site.

No.

The 'One Hundred' Town Hall meeting is on Monday.

There is no new news pertaining to the Kingshighway @ Lindell project yet.

I wonder if Koplar feels that the gauntlet has been thrown...now they've got to respond with something even bigger and better!
