Heh, it's anise flavored which tastes like black licorice. Apparently you're more the red licorice type. ;)

I tried it the other nite and it was pleasant. I don't know if it's traditional, but I think I would have liked it chilled. I took a picture of it "steeping." Perhaps I'll post it here.

I was working the door during that little squirmish. Good times. Hoping that doesn't happen again anytime soon.

there were two unruly customers that managed to piss off the host of a private party in the palm room. His friends wanted them gone which resulted in the entire half of the bar going outside to beat the hell out of each other. Like twenty cop cars showed up, some dude got his ass beat so bad his clothes were town off, a cop got punched, mace went off, etc. Later, an escalade ran over a tree on the corner. In front of a cop.

I'd love to see an article or police report link.

Sorry if I was a dick to anyone, I was more than a bit pissed off.

I saw the damaged tree and wondered what went down.

Bunch of bleach helped with the blood.

At least they took it outside ...I would have hated to see FB get completely trashed a couple weeks after opening. You guys might want to consider investing in a couple of 350 lb. UFC champion bouncers.

Good way to lose a 3:00 am license. Mr. Kraiberg loves to hear about stuff like this.

So is the Palm Room where the private parties are? Where some hoosiers tyrying to crash it? Or were they hoosiers from the party?

Joe Edwards had to figure some folks would mistake the big pink flamingo for their trailer park :)

Umm, how shall I put this? This wasn't hoosiers or trailer trash brawling in front of the FB, at least not according to the respective stereotypes, but it was definitely trash. See the Lucky's thread...

From personal experience, the crowd on NYE at FB was a very diverse and stylish crowd. The large party in the private room had some fairly well known STL celebs partying. It was a great night, a great representation of downtown. I was not there when things went bad. If you weren't there, then don't comment or speculate. Drinking can lead us all down a path we don't want to be...so let's just let this discussion end now if no one has any concrete information. 'nough said

This is what I heard so am sure the story is somewhat distorted. There was a hip-hop record label having a party, some big names were supposed to show but didn't (not relevant). Anyway, a girlfriend of someone at the private party was trashed and getting taken advantage of by one or more people who were not part of the private party. Guess her boyfriend and friends took exception to that and the melee ensued.

I'm not sure to whom this was directed, but I thought I made it fairly clear that I was there, and did see who was involved. I was trying as best as I could to be PC about the whole thing, but then I've never been very good at that. At least there were no shots fired, er, at least as far as I know. Again, see the Lucky's thread...

Two words for Flamingo bowl to nip this in the bud quickly...."Dress Code". Simply ban baggy pants, jerseys, tennis shoes, and baseball hats to defeate their ilk. I can't stomach watching another place on Washington "Go Thug".

That or don't have hip-hop record release parties. The people attending are probably ok, but you get the gang banger wanna-bees who think it's all real.

There were similar problems at Windows on Washington in its earlier days. Several times the thug crowds got so out of hand that the staff were put in physical danger. Thankfully (for those of us that worked there) a decision was made to better screen their perspective cliental and problems quickly receded.

No, its a nice crowd in general. Only other incident I saw, and I've already graced this place nearly 10 times, was a 50 some year old man in a ridiculous Christmas sweater yelling at one of the bartenders telling him "You look here..." because they cut him, and his sweater, off. It was really funny, because as he was escorted out someone yelled "nice f n sweater" at him...

Apparently he has already been banned from at least one other Joe edwards establishment, according to the bartender. I just don't understand why people try to argue their way back into service when a bartender cuts them off. "Oh, you're right, you do seem more sober now that you have yelled and your spittle is on my face..."

Really funny scene though..an instant Christmas classic!

how is the palm room set up? Based on the comments regarding a girlfriend at the private party being disrupted by someone not part of the private party, it is a open room adjacent to the bar/alley????

Went bowling last night with a crowd of 10 ranging in ages from 4 to 77. We all bowled and had an awesome time. The staff was extremely nice, food was decent and timing was great as that "happy hour" time slot afforded us the lanes of our choice. This is truly a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

The only negative is that one in our party ended up with a parking ticket as was parked right across the street on Wash. Ave. The meter was fed properly but this little sign a couple of spots down said no parking between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and had an arrow pointing in two directions. This ticket will get contested.
