314-

If you haven't had Gilardi's in Springfield, you're missing out. One of the best Italian restaurants I've eaten at. Comparable to anything you get at the fine dining establishments on the Hill, but priced better. And Nicola (the owner) is an awesome guy, and he'll tell you some great jokes.

Whenever any restaurant opens, there are always going to be screw ups. You have to give it about a month before you can judge whether or not it's any good.

Went to J. Bucks downtown tonight...very nice inside and very well done. The bar area has a lot of TVs.

THey also have a great lighted sign outside on the corner of the building...it really helps the area out. THis area is really starting to happen.

Looks like I'll have to skip the horseshoe for once and give that a try next time I'm in Springfield. 8)

mophipsi...I didn't know J. Buck's was opening in Bloomington...thanks for the info. My brother that lives there will dig that.

Walked by it last night, but didn't stop in - the sign looks great.

It also looked like work is well underway on the first building of McGowan's Ballpark Lofts.

Screw the Village.

This segment of downtown is exciting. Can't wait when the entire area is developed.

Went for the first time last night and really liked it. Cool space and a great bar area. Would like to see how it does pre/post game (esp with Cubs coming). Looking out the back and seeing the BL banners as well as the banner above Mercury, as mentioned above, the potential for this area seems to be materializing.

Joe and Julie Buck buy J. Buck’s restaurants in Clayton, downtown

St. Louis Business Journal

Broadcasters Joe and Julie Buck said Tuesday they will be principals in a new company taking over the J. Buck’s locations in Clayton and downtown St. Louis, marking the first time they have had ownership in the J. Buck’s family of restaurants.

The new ownership company, Bodley Buck LLC, will be led by managing partner Doug Albrecht, chairman of Bodley Group. Albrecht had been chairman and chief executive of Centric Group until his retirement in December.

The new ownership also includes Thom Sehnert, owner of Annie Gunn’s and The Smokehouse Market in Chesterfield; Dan Dierdorf, CBS sportscaster, member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and partner in Dierdorf & Hart’s Steakhouse in Westport; and Tom Sobbe, a retired executive with Anheuser-Busch. Mandi Harrell will serve as vice president of operations.

The Bucks said they plan to maintain the current staff at the restaurants and expand the downtown location to accommodate live music and events.

"The Cupples Station Building hasn't really been tapped into," said Julie Buck, who hosts a weekday show on 103.3 FM. "There's a lot of space that's so original and it's got a retro feel to it."

^ It's good to see the Bucks get involved in the business- especially given their plans for the downtown location. Sounds great. 8)

It's nice to see Thom Sehnert's involvement. A great restaurant man. Smartest thing the rest of this group did was bring him into the mix.

I finally got around to dining at the downtown location on Monday - what a great space, it's really well done. The huge windows provide some awesome views.

BTW, that place is surprisingly kid-friendly. I had the day off, but my wife did not, so my daughter and I met her for lunch there. Several other families were doing the same thing.

The Fairview Heights (St. Clair Square), Springfield, Mo. (Battlefield Mall), and the Bloomington, Ill. locations closed their doors as well.

It looks like the Bucks are hiring a new management team, and they're focusing on the downtown St. Louis and downtown Clayton locations.
