Those signs probably just got this place shut down. I don't know this guy but I'm guessing he's got a nice collection of Ed Hardy shirts.
From the P-D article
Fair point. But it's also not a license to not be proactive about addressing concerns and taking actions. Look at Soulard bars and how they play well with neighbors. Moreover, he said, many of the complaints come from people who live in the high rise that houses his club. They complain about the music, about the smoke, and about people hanging out in the front. But what, he asked, do they expect, moving into a building with a club under it?
"They want suburban living downtown," he said. "If you want Ladue, go to Ladue!"

Hasn't this type of thing been happening for a very long time in many, many places? People move, businesses move, neighborhoods change.

The sign hanging was taped by KSDK, looks like they had enough media savvy to coordinate it. Hear Robert Olsen speak.

As a Downtown resident who lives in proximate distance to these clubs, I wish to say again to whoever is reading this, who may be a party to these stories, that I do not personally have any problem with hip hop nights or their clientele, who happen to be predominantly African American. I do enjoy having diversity in where I live and personally enjoy meeting my fellow Saint Louisains of all colors & economic backgrounds.
My problem with these clubs is the violence resultant from a very small percentage of their clientele, including the slingers dealing almost openly within these clubs, and the resultant violence outside these clubs caused by this same group. A few fist fights, and I wouldn't care, but a series of shootings is just too much to stomach for anyone.
Yes, I would appreciate more policing at these clubs, but I would also like to see these clubs' security more effectively police themselves. This includes underage drinking, which is obvious and rampant, as well as more responsible monitoring of their clientele once they step outside. If they get drunk in a club, then step outside and cause a scene, it remains that club's responsibility by proxy.
I don't want to see the bbq guys at Tucker & Wash have to move; they cook real good late night chicken.
And personally, I find it unwise for the club owner to make jabs at the building in which the club resides, as well as the residents above who own their properties. If you can't keep a happy home, it's hard to have good terms with your neighbors.
Bottom line: The city has a system in place for dealing with nuisance properties. These properties (with the possible exception of Sugar, which seems to be relatively tame as far as police calls go) have proven themselves to be nuisances. They should be shut down. Any establishment in the city with 50-100 police calls in one year, many of them for gun violence, is not an establishment that should be allowed to operate in a civilized society. Hey F15teen and Lure, go f**k yourselves and get the F**k off my lawn.
The Mayor's Chief of staff summarized their statements well this morning on 590. "When you have facts you fight your battles with facts, when you have the law behind you, one fights with the law, when you have nothing behind you, you pound your fist and make noise", which is what their banners are.
They are bad neighbors, bad business managers, and make poor decisions.
Interesting facts presented today on the show:
Lure stated 60% of their business comes from Thursday night, which is why they are doing everything they can to keep it going.
The owners of Lure are all Caucasian.
The neighborhood community and presented facts is how the liquor license hearing will be presented. (A business isn't going to win the opinion of a community by calling them racist).

Wow, I really wasn't aware that F15teen was part of this mix until I read some of the previous posts here. I can remember when we had a lengthy discussion on this forum when the place opened about whether anyone should be able to walk into the place wearing a Cardinals hat or a jersey. At the time F15teen was supposed to be an 'upscale' establishment, so Joe Sixpack in his beer-stained jersey was not welcome. My, how times have changed. Apparently they'll let anyone, literally anyone, in the doors there these days. Like Central Scrutinizer said, it's desperation.

Tim McKernan said on 590 that 15 is taking the approach of cooperation with City, what can they do to work it out, while Lure took the opposite/idiotic approach. 15's management claims they have not had issues in 8 months, according to 590 AM this morning. They apparently made some changes months ago. Not sure how accurate that is.
^My understanding of 15 is that it is fine for Joe 6-pack before and during Cards games, as well as other times. It turns into a 'club' on certain nights.

So is 15 still a restaurant? I've eaten there twice and enjoyed it.

Here's a link to a cached version of Lure co-owner, Nick Trupiano's MySpace page. The wise guy has recently hid his profile, but Google was nice enough to keep an earlier copy for us. I apologize for the offensive content, but it indicates the character and maturity level of the folks we are dealing with at Club Lure.

Maybe Jay should start playing Lure.
I'm not sure which is more surprising: his myspace page or the fact that myspace still exists.

That's a good question. First, that page was last updated on 11/25/2009. Second, Nick Trupiano stated late last night that he authorized one of his managers to utilize that Myspace page for promotional purposes. This is likely to be the work of a scorned, former employee. Regardless, you think a business that cared about its reputation would do a better job ensuring the marketing it had authorized was on point. The Count wrote:Let's get real Inno, you want us to believe this is not your profile on myspace?

To All,
This is Nick Trupiano in response to the myspace page. First off let me start by saying all profile/ comments are completely false. I just saw for the first time with my own eyes the disgusting remarks used to describe myself. I had given a former manager permission to open a page using me as a profile for prmotional uses for my businesses. I was not the creator nor the author of this site. The contents on here are highly offensive to me and anyone who reads it. I have no children, I do not believe rape scenes are funny and I have not taken a homeless man home for thanksgiving dinner. Clearly you can see that I never monitored this page. I am appauled that such words would be used and associated with me or my character.the moment i found out that this page existed i did everything to shut it down. Obviously this was a poor attempt of humor or an attempt to smere and humilliate me. BY NO MEANS DID I KNOW THAT THE PAGE STILL EXISTED OR THE CONTENTS ON IT EXISTED AS WELL. By opening myself up to public scrutiny certainly you cant belive i had knowledge this page existed.
And here I thought this guy had the compassion to give a homeless man a warm meal on Thanksgiving.

I heard him on the radio. Thus I kinda don't believe him.
I saw on one of the local blogs stating that Trupiano thinks some of the publicity and hatred by the city is due to his great uncle / father or something being a former St Louis mob boss. I'm not sure if this was before or after he pulled the race card. Is Trupiano available for PR consulting? He has amazing class and character.
Also, from his past actions and statements, I surely can believe he set the myspace page up.

I was wondering when the mob connection would be brought up. Nick's family does have ties to the mob.
No, you're wrong about Doug. He's not an anonymous troll hiding behind his keyboard. He's quite well known in local urbanist circles, and he has an impressive record of active, hands-on participation in many causes near and dear to all urbantists. Sure, his style can be abrassive, but hey, the squeeky wheel gets the oil.TheRemedy wrote: Doug, you are nothing but a forum troll. I don't believe you are truly for any of the points you attempt to make. Please leave the forum.
I certainly don't agree with everything he says, but that's what discussion boards are all about - the free exchange of ideas. This forum, and this city, would be a lesser place without Doug.
And now, back to our regular mayhem....
