For anyone wanting to get involved or having problems with the clubs we’ve agreed to meet July 27th @ 6:30 at the Partnership offices to discuss status and next steps.

OK, I'm seeking confirmation on whether or not anything happened at Lure on the 4th, the night everyone was wondering if anything was going to happen. I've heard credible but conflicting stories of trouble going on, but after searching the local news sites I've found nothing.
Please, I'm not trying to throw gas on a fire or instigate anything. Seeking facts only.
If you know of something and can validate it, please say it.
If nothing happened, then let's say nothing happened and leave it at that.

I second that, and if anyone can provide information or pics on the winning "bad girl" I think we can all agree we are curious.Gone Corporate wrote:OK, I'm seeking confirmation on whether or not anything happened at Lure on the 4th, the night everyone was wondering if anything was going to happen. This is almost a weekly event, someone should plan watch parties.

New Orleans was a fantastic time by the way.
What would be the purpose of the watch party? Try to get shot? Break up the fights? It seems there is plenty of evidence that a problem exists. Is there any solution besides closing the place down or banning G-Rides through racial profiling? How about the club closes earlier? Only 21+? Maybe make it 25+ as some places on the North Side won't allow people even 30+? Or about go the Craig Schmid route an ban all new liquor permits on Washington Avenue? Or could that be too far if the white Chad sports bars are affected?

I like your solutions and I would rather avoid shutting them down. We have a diverse mix of businesses that bring in a diverse crowd which is what we want downtown. My only concern is will the owners play nice and stand by their word. How can I be confident they will enforce a 21 and over policy or a dress code? They should be doing that already but they have sold out as a sleazy nightclub serving minors and people dressed inappropriatly for what you would see in a club. Do we give them a shot and see if they can make it happen or will it be a bait and switch that we will be reviewing again next summer?

Looks like the City is moving to shut them down:
From KMOX's Michale Calhoun on Twitter: "City moved today to shut-down the three major nighclubs on Wash Ave. Exclusive details during the morning news on KMOX Radio."

Yep. I happened to run into some friends in the bar business this evening, and then made a few more calls.Alex Ihnen wrote:Looks like the City is moving to shut them down:

Lure, Sugar & 15. They're done.
Once you get on Kraiberg's sh!t list, it's not a question of if, but of when.

As long as it's not downtown, it's someone else's problem.Alex Ihnen wrote:Where will they go? There will be clubs in St. Louis for sure.

15? I wasn't aware there were problems there, but I haven't read through the entire thread or heard anything about it in the news either.
As for the other two, I also figured it was a matter of when rather than if they would be shut down.

you're really hung up on this "g ride" thing.Doug wrote:New Orleans was a fantastic time by the way.

there are laws in place that prohibit disturbing the peace.
there are laws in place that prohibit careless and imprudent driving.
i'd like to see both enforced.
also it seems metal detectors wouldn't hurt. they use them at music venues, why not violence-prone clubs?

Watch party was a sarcastic remark. Doug, you are nothing but a forum troll. I don't believe you are truly for any of the points you attempt to make. Please leave the forum.Doug wrote:New Orleans was a fantastic time by the way.

FYI: From wikipedia: In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]

Why 15? I haven't heard of issues stemming from the place. And there really isn't much residential in close proximity. Not to mention I have 2 Groupons to place!
15 has been catering to the same (type of) crowd that frequents Lure and Sugar Lounge. About seven months ago a guy got shot on their doorsteps after a fight inside.

Did anyone else have an issue with Sugar taking over the sidewalk. They would put up tent and ropes in front of the entrance that mostly blocked the sidewalk.

Generally when a bar isn't doing well, they will pretty much open their doors to any type of trash in order to make a buck. It's desperation. The Count wrote:15 has been catering to the same (type of) crowd that frequents Lure and Sugar Lounge. About seven months ago a guy got shot on their doorsteps after a fight inside.

Lure used to do that by allowing their customers to park their motorcycles on the sidewalk. I know I reported that to the police, not sure if others did.Moorlander wrote:Did anyone else have an issue with Sugar taking over the sidewalk. From what I have heard, the issues on Washington are mainly on certain nights. Why not have those clubs remove the events on those nights from their schedule? I would prefer that over closing them. I am not that familiar with the situation down there, nor have I browsed this thread too indepth, but it seems as if the issues are mainly on Thursday & Sunday nights. Would these clubs survive without those nights? Are there issues on other nights as well?
I was considering what alternatives would work as well. Parking situations further away monitored by police could possibly replace the gunfire with drunken bar fights (which I prefer over shootouts)? Third party security in the clubs with weapons search? Not sure if it would solve all problems though.

OK, so the rumor is that the City is looking to shut down Lure, Sugar, and 15? Do we have any independent confirmation on this, any outside news stories or press releases, or a broadcast report from KMOX? Any news on Club Europe v2.0?
Any independent, credible news reports, please post for verification. Thanks.
Should these clubs be forced to close, I wonder:
1. What will go in these buildings now?
2. Where will these businesses relocate? Midtown? Landing?
As an aside, I love the constructionship in these lofts. Sumdood shoots three guys down the block from me, and I slept right through it. Peace and quiet in the city, how's that for a sales pitch?

Will the clubs offer something or is it past that stage? Seems as though they should have seen this coming and offered something to avoid being closed. I guess they'll move elsewhere. What neighborhood is most likely to sign off on a liquor license?
