The DSLRA coordinated the meeting along with Ken, the Safety focal for the Partnership. Residents discussed issues they had been experiencing. There are a variety of issues to be addressed above and beyond the shooting incident.
It was interesting because Robert Olsen, a Principal for Lure, showed up about halfway through the meeting. There was a discussion between the parties in which he promised to make some accomodations. We shall see...
The next meeting will be held July 6th. I seem to recall it will be held @ 6:30pm at the same location. I'll verify before the meeting is held.

Was anything mentioned about the other 2 suspects Sugar and Europe?
A leopard never changes it's spots. We need to shut this place down now.
I've been in contact with someone who has successfully gone through the petition process against other clubs in the past. It's not an easy process, but if we follow the rules and have the support of the neighborhood we can get Lure closed. It may sound a little extreme to some reading this thread, but I actually live on the 6th floor above Lure. The residents here have met with Lure on multiple occasions and have requested small changes to improve the environment of the building and the neighborhood, yet they continue to ignore and treat us with contempt. I don't have a problem with bars/restaurants in the area just the ones causing unsafe environments for the neighborhood. This isn't about "Hip-Hop night" either, trouble can be found at Lure Thursday thur Saturday. It's about public intoxication, bar fights, street fights, weapons, underage drinking, loitering, 3AM false fire alarms, and more. With the support of everyone in The Meridain and our surrounding neighbors we can have Lure's liquor license challenged and hopefully removed.

Wow, I didn't know people lived in that building! I thought it was all offices. I can imagine you'd be wanting to get rid of them.

My inlaws own one of the most popular restaurant/Lounge in San Antonio.
They make sure NO funny business goes on. Girls with short short skirts... dont even get in the door.
A couple of weeks ago one of the promoters brought in a group of girls who could be classified as "Hoochy"
They were denied and the promoted said, "Listen, I bring the hot B*tiches, what else do you want?"
Doorman goes, "Exactly, you are bringing B*itches, we only allow ladies."
They have witnessed many lounges fail due to establishments not following their own policy or just letting anyone in, or for that matter, not kicking drunks out, because they only care about short-term money instead of long term benefits.
I am sure this Bad Girl crowd is going to be Classy.
Now I don't want to go all "Doug" here, but let's not totally damn a Chingy party just to. Chingy's a good rapper overall, a proud local, and will attract a strong crowd of people simply looking to dance & have a good time. I don't know anything about the production company, but I don't want to blanketly curse them for booking a big party, noting that I don't fall into that demographic anymore (namely, I'm a white guy in his 30s who thinks rap music peaked with Public Enemy, The Chronic, and Doggystyle) (For disclosure, I'm still on their mailing list). The "shut this city down" line, they speak that only to their detriment. The photoshoot sounds cheesy, but I'm not going to discount pretty girls in the party. Bring on the dancing girls.
The party theme and the patrons themselves are NOT the problem.
Where I see issues is only in a small piece of the crowd endemic to most clubs: drug dealers and those that oversee them. These guys are the ones who will cause the trouble, if any. There may be guys stashing guns in their cars before they go in, especially if the security does their job and use the Wand on everyone walking in, as has been their SOP.
I'll say again: I have no issue with the majority of the crowd coming in, and I hope it's a fun party. I'm pretty sure this is the consensus opinion here.
If trouble breaks out like not so long ago, i.e. a shooting involving the problem piece of the crowd, that'll be the end of Lure. If Lure's smart, they'll know this and act accordingly to make sure things don't get out of hand, i.e. they'll make sure they don't serve the obviously housed, they'll make sure fights don't break out, and they'll keep the dealers out.
But if not, then we'll see a new business on the block shortly thereafter.
I'll be out of town this Fourth, sad I can't make it, but I hope the fireworks are fun. And safe.

For the last time, it has nothing to do with the music or the color of a person's skin. It is about the violence and other disturbances emanating from a nuisance property. Enjoy New Orleans...

Doug, Hate to break it to you, but New Orleans is known for Jazz, not Rap. Good luck on that not getting shot part.

Actually, NOLA has some great rap music from there, including Master P and Cash Money Millionaires. While it also is the home of swingtime jazz, it really does have a great hip hop scene. It must, or else why would Essence hold its fest down there?
Have fun there, Doug. Enjoy the De La Soul for my old self.

This isn't the way to change someones perspective. What type of response do you expect from this?
