Someone tagged the east side of the pharmacy building at Newstead and West Pine. If they're so proud of this "artwork" they should put it on canvas and sell it to someone who might appreciate it. Not me.
I'm sorry guys, when I saw "4 Give Yo Self" as I was driving down 64 I almost drove off the road in amazement. Think of how hard it has to be to pull this off. And given you will see Ed's work everywhere around town, I gotta give him respect. I like this. You don't see this anywhere else and it makes the City interesting.
While I was in Chicago I saw a lot of "You are Beautiful." I like that as well.
^sorry, I'm gonna save my respect for those who are making the city a better place. Not those who deface others property. And I include roads and bridges as "others" property. Unless he has obtained permission from all taxpayers in the jurisdiction.
We have a floodwall he can paint on. But I guess following the rules and being a good citizen is playing right into the hands of "the man"
The vandal apparently goes by the name Ed Box, and investigators believe the vandal strikes at times when it's dark and when no one is around to see the crime.
They arrived at these conclusions through months of painstaking research. After all of the graffiti occurred at night, they gradually figured out that the vandal strikes when it is dark. After nobody witnessed the crimes, they eventually realized that the crimes occurred when no one was around to see them. With detective work like this, Ed Boxx is not long for this world. In other news, dogs are not cats, rain is wet, and boobs are relevant to my interests.
Ed also tagged a quonset hut on the west side of Compton just north of Chouteau. "4give" about 15 feet tall.

It's not quite as "interesting" when it's on your property and you have to come up with the money to remove it.
This sucks. Three residential garages in the alley north of McPherson between Taylor and Newstead have been tagged. What used to be one of the most charming alleys in the neighborhood (owners actually plant perennials every year from one end to the other) now looks trashy. I thought it was only a matter of time before the scumbags started defacing the front of buildings, and I see from above (pharmacy at Newstead and West Pine) that time is already here.
In no way is vandalizing property "interesting". I'm sorry that in Doug's mind respect is given to some jackhole who tarnishes the property of another. Everyday when I ride the Metro and have to see Ed Boxx on multiple structures, I realize we have a long way to go until this isn't seen as normal.
I'm all for big brother watching out for scumbags like Ed.
Spray painting your name/tag everywhere is one thing, but a well thought out and meaningful graffiti project can be beautiful.
Since that appears to be the same attitude that brought the illegal defacement, perhaps you should pay to remove it. If you desire to create a work of art, do so with permission or pay the consequences. When they catch this Ed Boxx guy, they better lay the hammer of justice down on him.
^Damn right it is! How did he pull this off! It's huge! I've seen his work in most physically daunting areas. And on buildings I really wouldn't prefer to be inside at night. On top of buildings, railroad viaducts, bridges. Besides the legal risk of doing this, he could be killed. You have to give him props for having the fortitude to risk his life for both entertainment and self expression. I understand the objections as this is a violation of property rights, but really to suggest he be shot is ridiculous. This isn't society threating sedition or treason.
Really, you have to admit that you get a least marginal entertainment. Even if all it does is piss you off, that is a reaction. You are debating it with me. You want to come over to my place and punch me in the face because of my opinion. While you are driving on the boring highway, you see it. And you react. Your boring day has instantly been thrilled, whether for the good or bad. It has value!
I'm not a fan of graffiti and vandalism, but I am amazed at what Ed Boxx been able to do over and over again. The locations for his giant "Fo Give Yo Self"s are such public area's 2 locations on 40 - the federal mogul building, and a retaining wall at Kingshighway (now painted over) and Tucker at Chouteau - just over the viaduct from the police head quarters. And these aren't just simple tags. These are giant 10-12 feet high tags, the one at Tucker was probably 20-25 feet long. How can you possibly do that and not get caught? Especially the number of times he's done it. A friend of mine thinks there are multiple "Ed Boxx's" which very well could be the case.

I give him NO props. He is a self aggrandizing f ing loser.
Again, SO SIMPLE: you don't own it, so don't vandalize it. Go spray paint on the flood wall if he thinks he's contributing something so enlightening for us all..
idiot with the can and zero education: I think I can improve that "boring" arch with my "expression" by tagging it with the dumbest most pathetic trite line...
Chances are the people who think this is cool, aren't property owners. "Tagging" looks childish, impresses few, and ends up costing the lucky property owner money to clean up the 'canvas'. Ed has been getting ballsier lately which means the chances of him getting caught are improving. Sad thing is, he'll probably get a fine and/or probation instead of jail time.

I don't care if he risks his life or not. Stupid people every day risk their life doing stupid, self-centered things. Just because we are "debating" an issue DOES NOT make it right. Anything is debatable. All this guy is doing is defacing other people's EARNED property.
Also, you say that just because our "boring day has instantly been thrilled", it has value? That is just ridiculous. What if someone came and keyed your car or stole or ruined something valuable to you? I bet you wouldn't recognize the "value" in that. Ed Boxx is doing this exact same thing just on a bigger scale. He should be put in jail.

I would prefer an MLS football stadium with a metro link stop. But that ain't gonna happen.

But anyone can key a car. I don't know about Doug, but I'm not encouraging anyone to go out and tag something. Again, I don't really care about the issue. All I'm saying is that his work is impressive. Just because I say something is impressive doesn't mean I agree with it.

I wouldn't say "Fo Give Yo Self" is pathetic and dumb. And perhaps he's not uneducated. Perhaps he's some college-educated yuppy prick that uses improper English to save time. You're jumping to conclusions.
And, for what it's worth, speaking from family history, vandilism is in fact a felony.[/i]
