Graffiti reminds me of Dadaism.

I don't mind it on the flood wall. I can't think of where else it's ok though. If you don't own it, it's not yours to destroy or "improve". Isn't that a pretty simple rule? I think it is. Someone owns those rail cars too, the owners have a right to not have people deface them; again, VERY simple.

Maybe I'm wrong (since I'm no expert on graffiti removal), but I'd bet they were simply trying to cover it up as a quick stopgap measure until they could find a way to permanently remove it without damaging the building's facade.

There are many, many ways to deface a city without graffiti. Case in point, attitudes like stlmizzoutiger.

I agree with what JCity said about graffiti. If it's not your property or on a surface designated for it (the floodwall) then it's against the law and against good civic behavior to "tag it".

As for stlmizzoutiger--nothing like a trust fund kid in Ladue talking like Dirty Harry

While I understand graffiti as a form of expression, I agree with the assertions that it's wrong to deface property that is not yours as its disrespectful. I like many murals, but the distinction is that the owner of the property wanted them there. If you want to express yourself artistically, there's plenty of ways to do it without breaking the law. Whether you believe it to be valid or not, check out the "broken window" theory as it relates to the topic.

Can someone tell me what I missed here? I'm seeing stlmizzoutiger getting destroyed by all of you but I guess I don't see what he did or said to ask for that...is it because he posted a picture of a guy with a gun? Or are you bad mouthing because you disagree with him in other completely unrelated threads?

I know he has had a lot of liberal/conservative arguments, but jeez, lighten up on the guy.

I'm pretty much with him on this one--at least in the sense that I believe property rights are RIGHTS. I guess there's a first time for everything!

It has to do with past history as well, the dude is a flamer.

That said, I agree with the assessment on tagging. I personally like a lot of graffiti, as I've said before. If it's a blank wall, I think it adds personality and sass to an area, but I really think that it needs to be done legally. And taggers should be prosecuted if they are caught. That's the worst. I really don't like some idiot just spray painting his name.

i esp like the awesome work in kansas city but i even like looking for the turtles in detroit. does anyone know what i am talking about? there is a guy in detroit- i think they call him turtle- that tags these crappy looking turtles all over the city. sometimes, he switches it up a bit and tags with dead turtles.

It's kinda funny.

Anyways if you feel that pissed about graffiti look at some of Banksy's work which usually ends up being pretty halarious. The guardai in London have no problem letting him run around and paint and townships even vote to keep his artwork up.

Yeah, I saw that Sat morning on the way to WashU. The letters are pretty tall. I wonder how he does it? Spray can on the end of some long pole? I would doubt he would drag a 20 foot ladder around.

I noticed grafitti the other day and wondered if it was new or if I had never noticed it before. This clears the air.

That said, I want it to stop. Now.
