I noticed that the buildings along Fourth Street that make up the first phase of the Chouteau's Landing redevelopment have been hit hard recently.

I wonder when these clowns are likely to strike? It's time for the city to set up a graffiti task force, and when they are caught they should be put under the jail.

Besides some type of graffiti task force, citizens need to be reporting these people. You can't tell me that no one ever sees any of the graffiti "artists" in action. Look at the places Ed Boxx alone has hit. How did no one see him up on the Orpheum Theatre?

I applaud Michael and Claire for their level headed approach, but assuming that rational arguments are going to talk this guy out of irrational puerile behavior is asking a bit much imo. I hope all of the examples of Ed's work have been/are being documented (and submitted to the police). That way all of his chickens can come home to roost when he finally gets caught.

LOL. Are these people really that naive?

^ I'd say that Michael and Claire are likely among the least naive people to ever post on this forum.

Or do you mean 'naive' in a "oh look, they're trying to do good but it may not work" kind of way?

As in, do they really think the guy will show up to drink with them?

I'm thinking they probably don't expect him to read the post to start with.

Looks like the taggers hit the Kingshighway/40 interchange last night. Tagged the exit signs and some of the walls of the interchange. Also some new fresh stuff around Vanderventer/40.

Thank You! Thank you for brightening my day with your fine artwork and once again proving how vibrant and energetic this city is!

EDIT: "KILL CREW 456" must be pissed and trying to claim some territory. Looks like they tagged every Metrolink station from Stadium to Forest Park as well as a couple of the trailers at the Macy's Warehouse.

if they "tagged" the metrolink stations, aren't they on camera? I hope the city and Metro are determined to find these little punks.

They should be tied up at Kiener Plaza so everyone could "tag" them.. hehe

Ok. So there is some schmuck running around town tagging stuff with a hudson sprayer set on stream mode.... The tags look like a 3 yr old did them. It seams like they have hit just about every part of the city with new tags on Kingshighway and Shaw. The one that ticks me off the most is on one of the few remaining buildings on N. 1st Street just past the Mississippi Nights site. A beautiful old ghost sign has been destroyed by some chicken scratch neon pink graffitti.

Ed Box is at it again. He tagged one of the Metrolink overpasses in Forest Park this last weekend and then came back last night to add some more work. Something about "I Pay Taxes" was part of his work.

Well, Mr Box: I also pay taxes and part of that money is going to have to be spent on having someone cover your sh*t again.

Plus "YNOT" also tagged the wall right by the Metro train storage shed between Grand and Union Station. Though he didn't finish and a Metro worked was out there today covering it.

I would just like to have everyone stand up and give a big round of applause to the great artist and poets EdBox and YNOT for their beautiful artwork. One day you might reach the greatness of "AGES" and "GUER". Shoot for the stars my friends, shoot for the stars!!!!

More complain about cities used as a canvas

...fans and critics agree on this much: Never has so much been done to fight graffiti, and never has there been so much of it.

The Chicago mayor's office says it expects about 170,000 cases of graffiti this year, up from 106,849 three years ago. Graffiti is one of the most frequently reported complaints to Minneapolis' 311 information line. In Los Angeles, a kid tagged a bus carrying Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Graffiti has become so common in Washington, D.C., that Mayor Adrian Fenty has claimed the right to remove it from private property without owners' approval. Chicago Mayor Richard Daley wants to fine parents for their children's scribbles. In Peoria, Ariz., surveillance cameras have been placed on poles in high-graffiti areas.

Many communities have passed local ordinances limiting minors' access to spray paint and wide-tipped markers, or adopted a Justice Department recommendation to set up walls or boards for legal graffiti art.

There are no national statistics on graffiti — much of it isn't even reported to police — and only theories about why it's increasing.

"It's an amalgam of things coming together," says Tim Cephart, a graffiti vandalism consultant. He cites graffiti's ever-larger role in pop culture, including its prominence in rap music videos.

Hugo Martinez, a graffiti historian and author ofGraffiti NYC, has a different take: "There's more graffbecausethere's more police enforcement. Repression leads to aggression."

That's awesome - so if nothing is done to those who spray then they'll stop? Excellent. If only it would work for shoplifting, drugs, murder and other crimes.

Wonder if one of these two was Ed Boxx:

Thumbs-down art review -- 2 arrested

By Harry Levins

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

07/19/2007

Mike Fitzpatrick may not know much about art, but he knows what he hates -- spray-painted graffiti.

So early today, when a crew in a Missouri Department of Transportation truck radioed in that graffiti artists were defacing the Tamm Avenue overpass being built over U.S. Highway 40, MoDOT dispatcher Fitzpatrick grabbed for the phone.

or AGES or GUER or YNOT. Those seem to be the four big taggers around St. Louis.

I saw the report on Fox 2 news. Reportedly it was two 28 year old men. My favorite part is when they show them in the police cars. Score one for public humiliation!!! THe fines are rather low though, I think it was something like 90 days in jail and up to a $500 fine. I'd say give them 1000 hours of community service to clean up all the grafitti around here.

^ Why do that? Makes much more sense for the police to "tag" people they catch throwing up graffiti. Someone can spraypaint EDBOX on EDBOX when they catch him.

Tag them and put them in stocks on the Tamm Avenue overpass during rush hour.

Apparently the tagline these guys used was "misfits" and the cops have some other work that they are going to try to pin on them. I agree, making them clean up their own graffiti as well as that of others..........in July and August............in ST. Louis................with toothbrushes... is the way to go. We've been waiting a long time for this Urbanstlouis, hopefully they'll squeal on their buddies and payback will be a M-F'er.
