Hasn't this site always been under Tapatalk? I very rarely ever use my phone on this site, but the time or two that I have (it's been a few months) anytime I used my phone browser it would automatically attempt to direct me into the Tapatalk app. I think this might just be an updated version of some of their software. If not, I don't see any reason to be concerned...it's just a web forum host.symphonicpoet wrote: ↑Apr 17, 2019I don't personally care for the fact that I seem to have been signed up for Taptatalk without ever being so much as consulted. Not familiar with them and as a result I'm a bit leery of them. That said . . . they're unlikely to be any worse than a dozen other things I signed up for knowing full well what I was going. It is a lot faster. That much is nice. I wish there were a quicker link to unread posts, rather than needing to navigate back to the top of the page and through two other pages. And the layout feels a little cluttered at the moment. But I expect you guys will get that stuff resolved gradually. If Taptatalk is the price of speed I suppose I will live with it. And the rest is fixable. (And ultimately survivable.) Probably mostly just a matter of getting use to it. But yes, a step in the right direction, it would seem.
Thanks for the update, site has actually become usable (reasonable loading times, no time out errors, no random logouts).
Stupid question: it does not seem to flag unread threads/sections? Or maybe it does it in a way that I haven't figured out yet...

^I've discovered that the titles of sections and threads with unread posts are highlighted in bold type. Click on the title and it takes you to the end of the page with a new post (not to the last new post itself, though).

^I think the little icon at the rightmost edge seems to take you to the last new post. Will try clicking on the title.
Clicking the title takes me to the very end of the thread, past every single post and straight to the comment box. Very odd.
I believe the mobile-optimized version of the site has optionally utilized Tapatalk, but it hasn't been a requirement until this migration - my account wasn't a Tapatalk ID, and now I'm being told it's migrating to Tapatalk, and BTW someone else has this user ID on Tapatalk so I'll need to pick something else. The Mayor wrote: ↑Apr 17, 2019Hasn't this site always been under Tapatalk? ^ Not a complaint, BTW - I'm quite glad we've made the change and grateful for those putting in the work to keep this place running.

Yeah. I had some trouble linking the right Tapatalk ID in. Tapatalk lets one choose, on a per-board basis, what username appears.
I was having a TON of trouble hunting down the speed issues on our MediaTemple hosting and their technical support seemed to expect slow load times for phpBB. But the Tapatalk guys proved they could load a forum site super-fast should we migrate over.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me the issue was my 'posts read' cookie was messed up with the move - the forum said I hadn't read anything past 2016, so *everything* was showing unread at first. What I assumed was a lack of unread threads was actually the forum marking everything unread.kipfilet wrote: Thanks for the update, site has actually become usable (reasonable loading times, no time out errors, no random logouts).

Mark the forums read as a reset, and future responses will be clear - forums with new posts in threads will have a blue line to the left, and threads in the forums with new posts will have bolded titles. Click the titles to be taken to the first unread post (at least in theory, anyway - been having issues with that, which I'll touch on in my next reply). Individual unread posts in a thread will be marked with a red dot in the upper-left corner of the post.

Yeah this happens on all pages for me - every new page I click on, I'm automatically taken to the very bottom of the page. In threads when I click the thread title I'm taken to the correct page, but it auto-scrolls to the end of the page and I have to manually scroll back up to read the unread posts. Interestingly, however, clicking the 'last post' arrow does actually take me straight to the post.symphonicpoet wrote: Clicking the title takes me to the very end of the thread, past every single post and straight to the comment box. That's the only complaint I have with the new setup currently. It's a small issue, not a deal-breaker by any means, but it's one I'd like to see fixed eventually.

Yeah, minor issues aside this seems to be a *much* better host.walker wrote: Yeah. I had some trouble linking the right Tapatalk ID in. Tapatalk lets one choose, on a per-board basis, what username appears.

My only real complaint is the auto-email notifications I get when someone replies to a post I commented on. I see that I have to uncheck the send me an email when someone replies when composing a post. Can that be disabled? If I want to receive emails about certain threads I'd rather opt myself in than have it done automatically. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it so far.
Hmmm...Looks like it's now taking me directly to the beginning of the first unread post. Excellent!

Seems not. I looked around and didn't see anything.
I know I changed my own user settings the minute those emails started arriving...

You've done a heck of a job, Walker, and it seems interest and activity on the board has already jumped.
If you could please direct me to the area where I can disable these I'd appreciate it, because I've scoured the user settings looking to turn them off and can't find anything. The only thing that really matches up is the subscribe/watching lists of posts and I routinely clear that out, but every time I leave a comment without disabling the below checkmark it puts it right back into my email.walker wrote: > My only real complaint is the auto-email notifications I get when someone replies to a post I commented on. ^^ Thanks! I hadn't clicked on that other option, I just clicked my username and went to the control panel.

Much additional appreciation for the update! From a long time member, great work! As noted above engagement seems to be up and I hope these updates continue to drive interest in the city and development in StL.
Well, I'm not much of a tech guy, so I need some help with the transition.
It's asking me to set up a Taptalk account; what's that? How do I do that? It says "framer" is already used by someone else at Taptalk. I can keep my user name here, but need to set up a new one there. How do I do that?
I do all my UrbanSTL stuff on a PC using either Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Anything else I need to know?

Have you tried logging into Tapatalk with username framer and your current password? That framer might be your account.
Is it just me or has the number of posts increased since the revamp? I'll say thats a good thing for now, hopefully that means more people rather than our little bubble.
It took some adjustment but it's working great for me now. This is my experience, as I'm sure it is for you: I updated my bookmark to the /discussion/all URL. Every time I click on a discussion name, it takes me to the oldest unread post. It takes me back to 2017 for threads I haven't viewed since the transition but I don't mind some reminiscing. Thank you to all who worked on this.

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t post often, but I’m on here hourly to check if you more informed members have any good tidbits. So, I am thoroughly enjoying the activity, because it was getting scarce there for a while.
