So I've been away for a bit. I supposed if I criticized the platform before, it's only fair to note that I've been logged in all day today without a single logout, even through some 20- to 30-minute periods of inactivity.

Dunno what happened, but good work guys!

Thanks. I've been tinkering trying to optimize things when I have spare moments. I've been trying to speed the site up as well, but haven't had all that much luck thus far.

Things have seemed much better the last week or so. Thank you. I should say so more often, but your efforts are much appreciated.

I would also like to thank you for your work/efforts.

- Speed is not perfect yet, but I do notice substantial improvements.
- No more random logouts
- Much fewer "500 Internal Server Errors" than I used to get

I apologize if this has already been addressed.

When I go to the forum, I get the following message:

"Sorry but you are not permitted to use the search system."

Then I have to login to view the forum. I cannot lurk without logging in.

I then have to login in 2-4 times to actually get to "active topics". That is where I always go first. When I try to post a thread or replay, I have to login a few more times. Is there a fix? Is this specific to my machine or is this an issue others have mentioned?

Please let me know if you can assist. Thank you!!

Yeah, the system just isn't working, I'm afraid. The sad part is we seem to be losing members, and we're certainly not going to attract any new ones.

I know this is all free, so I can't complain. And I'm no techy, so I can't offer any help. I just hate to see the Forum fade away.

We're surrounded by techies in this city. I'm sure someone would be willing to donate time to figure out the issue. This site has a lot of archived information that is valuable to people trying to navigate urban issues in St. Louis.

Also, the branding falls under the NextSTL platform. What happened to the campaign that raised thousands to sustain this and NextSTL?

Really though.
I was wondering if it was a prevention measure against spam posts or something.
Anyway, I, as I'm guessing most others, lurk for a month or two before actually creating an account. And this site is useless without the Active Topics page.

So the forced logouts seem to be back - it was infrequent earlier in the week but it's occurring with more and more frequency; it's been particularly bad today.

Am I missing something? I use Active Topics all the time (you do have to be logged in though).

It used to take a long time going through UrbanSTL because of all of the folks talking and discussing various topics. Now it takes a long time simply waiting for the few threads with any activity to load.

Sigh.

^Sorry, It's really not. In fact, I can no longer access the forum via Microsoft Edge. I get this message:

"Can’t connect securely to this page

Everything has been working well for me this week. No random logouts, and pages are loading quickly on Firefox.

Usually use Edge at work, and Chrome at home. They were always about the same, until the recent problems with Edge. Maybe I'll start using Firefox.

^I use Opera. (Yeah yeah, composer boy uses a musically themed browser. Go figure.) Had the same trouble for a day or so before I got frustrated and googled the issue and found a fix. I'm guessing either the admin or some part of the software supporting the site updated and the version of Opera I was at the time using did not have the new drivers to deal with the security. (The error message was darned misleading in that regard.) A simple browser update fixed it completely. Might be you're having the same issue with Edge. As often as not my browser updates automatically, but I had to do a manual update this time. I haven't used Edge in a while, so I'm not certain where to check the version, but if you can't find it easily maybe google manual update for Edge and that should tell you how to do it. Maybe that'll fix it.

I know this issue has persisted for a while now. I typically get on the site from my laptop or iPhone. I have a recent version of Windows & Internet Explorer. I am still having to login 3-4 times just to post on the site. I login, then post on a thread or add a thread, then I'm prompted to login again. It may or may not prompt me 1-2 more times. By then, it may have posted my message once or sometimes twice. Is there a fix here? While it is running better than it was (before I couldn't even post at all), I am still having major issues. It is very frustrating and time-consuming just to post on the site.

Please offer advice or help if possible. Thank you!!

Quick question: How can I change my settings so that when I click on an embedded link, the new site will open in a new tab? Right now it takes me away from UrbanSTL, then I have the hassle of getting back to it. I usually use Chrome or Edge.
