When it's time to eat those words (and I think there will be a time}, don't come back and say you were talking about SCHMUCKS, not SCHNUCKS! :-)
There may be a Schmuck's in that location but certainly not in early 2008 and likely not before the skybridge is torn down. I'd bet you a 6 pack on that one.

A 6 pack works for me! You're on, David. I do agree it may be later than early spring, but there could be delays with the skybridge, too, so I'm willing to take a chance!

I was in Connecticut this past weekend I randomly met a man who is with the a design company who behind the design for the Downtown STL Schnucks. He ensured me that the project is definitely a go and is now in the 1st stages of design.

It was good to hear that this is moving forward.

Oops, I saw this a while ago but forgot to respond. Sure, the potential skybridge delays could make this one interesting! Let's just say that if Schnuck's is operating before the skybridge is torn down or before the end of June 2008, you win. Otherwise, I win. Even with the new rumor, I think I'm still ok. ;)

It's probably to prevent 419 inquires. Cragslist is crawling with them whenever you try to sell something.

Out of probably 25 responses to my Craigslist apartment ad, I've gotten probably 10 419 responses.

Any updates on the Schnucks coming to downtown. Man I can't wait for a grocery store to get down here.

This is the message I received when I emailed Schnucks. Both a little negative and a little positive. Rumors seem to be shot down here, but the store does have it's eye out for the area. In regards to his comments below - I could have sworn that it was the St. Louis business journal that first started printing this, I'll go back and check the thread when I have more time.

^ That does'nt surprise me at all

Once again Schnucks/Desco/Stogel screws downtown

They have stalled and mislead the community into thinking something was going to happen.

This scared off City Grocer from expanding into the Syndicate.

City Grocer could have by now moved ahead with their plans..

THANKS SCHNUCKS for NOTHING!!!

I'm just irritated that the first floor retail space in the Century garage continues to sit vacant. Put a Schnuck's in it or fill it with some other retailers, just do something with it.

Wow. Schnucks doesn't think that the Business Journal is a 'news'paper. Who knew?

Same here. What I'd like to see there is either a grocery store, a pharmacy, or a bookstore. Any of those would make a killing.

Wow, that was somewhat disappointing. That location would be killer for a grocery store.

Personally, I like both and have no reason to shop anywhere else.

A grocery would be nice downtown. We were in St. Louis a few years ago and finally found a little corner grocery store. I forget where it was at, though.

I love City Grocers downtown.

AS FOR SCHNUCKS - it is not a "gossip" story at all!

I think that Schnucks is blowing smoke.... covering the fact they haven't "started" building the store inside the garage yet - to be honest. It doesn't make sense that the Bus. Journal would do an article and KMOX 1120 and KMOV Channel 4 announcement on their news about the store opening. Those are not gossipers, and really check their sources and info prior to news stories/releases. Both stories even announced that the store would be 20,000 sq, feet, including the 6 million dollar price.

Here is the article in the Business Journal and writer. When I contacted the author, the information came direct from Schnucks and the Desco Group. She also said that she has not heard any different since her article in the Business Journal was released 11 months ago.

I think that the "customer relations" staff is misinformed.

Just watch.

I hope so. If not, I don't think lying about building in downtown in the first place, or lying about not building is a good idea.
