^That couldn't have been written by Hartman; where's the smug condescension, the curmudgeonly whining, the nihilistic patter?

This information is surely buried in this thread somewhere, but what is the expected lunch hour frequency for the trolley and what's the expected travel time from the U City Library to the History Museum?

Must see footage of St Louis Street cars. I am glad that the loop project will not be using modern streetcars.

Loop trolly will become one the most valuable assets St.Louis has i believe this will be popular successful and within time will begin spurning moderate type development we do realize this area is already trendy the trolly adds more fire and going vintage is the best way to go!

^^^^ anybody know the intersection featured at the 3:00 mark? i can't place it.

i also like that this 2.2 miles will use historic cars, though i prefer the 1960 era models shown in the video over the older ones. it would be awesome if the Loop Trolley Co. could find a few to rehab...

Waterman looking east, streetcar about to turn left at Kingshighway with the homes of Hortense Pl in the background. Next scene is the streetcar turning right from Kingshighway to McPhereson.

Agreed-- nothing beats those beautiful streamlined PCC streetcars. And they were built right here in ST. LOUIS. Everyone probably already knows this, but there's a newly-restored St. Louis United Railways PCC streetcar at the Museum of Transportation that you can not only look at, but YOU CAN RIDE IT! It's the f##king coolest, you guys. I rode it and it changed my life. Too bad it couldn't be put back into functional use along the Loop Trolley line.

^ that's some real bad-ass design. grams is taking the kids over there tomorrow... it'll be neat to then be able to have them hop on the Loop Trolley next year

Although it is kind of silly to compare Loop Trolley to KC Streetcar in the way he did, I agree with this guy that the outcome likely will be better than what the critics say and less than what Edwards and the biggest backers say. As long as it doesn't fail and helps with a slow but steady increase in East Loop redevelopment I think that should be considered a nice success.

Speaking of trolley cars-- by my count we have 2 from Portland and 3 from Seattle.

Is that the fleet? Are there more?

^ That may be it but I'm not sure. fwiw, KC Streetcar only has 4 and one of those is (or at least was) in the shop for repair after a car slammed into it. (But due to the line's success I think they are going to order more.)

I happened to cross Delmar yesterday and noticed that in several places water was trapped between the two rails that stick up above the surrounding road. The rain had nowhere to go, but I did so I had to leap over both sets of tracks. Nobody ever designs for dry socks.

^ Right. It does not look like the design or construction crews took into account storm water runoff at all. So now in addition to having flooded curb ramps and crosswalks, water is going to be pooling in a mote in the middle of the trolley tracks.

It's amazing how much institutional knowledge seems to have been lost around the construction of streetcar lines.

From what I understand, the two on loan from Portland cannot run bidirectionally and cannot be used because the fine folks of U City shot down the turn-around (loop) at the new round-about. So that leaves us with the three from Seattle.

FB reminded me that it's been 6 years since the Loop Trolley was awarded $25M in Federal funding.

I sincerely hope that the project is a success once up and running, but there should be accountability for the mess of a process to this point. The problem is what to do? You can't/couldn't really cancel the project. The County was held hostage for $3M, Great Rivers Greenway, City Streets Dept., and other have had to contribute as well. And we still don't know how it will operate once completed.

The fact that the trolley company keeps everything so close to their vest including basic stuff like construction updates and detour routes is ridiculous. I used to think they were intentionally keeping secrets but I've now swung in the direction of incompetence.

As I stated early on regarding this project: It is someones toy. How long do you give it until some entity puts this toy back in its toy box and cleans up the mess it made and returns the streets it once trans versed back to its original?

Honestly kind of a shame. Pi for instance will almost certainly have to scale back their outdoor seating to allow pedestrians to go through

The construction update last week mentioned that Pershing at DeBaliviere was going to be closing for three weeks to put the tracks across that intersection. No word on detours yet, but as there's only one other exit from the neighborghood there, it sounds like there's going to be a lot of congestion trying to exit onto Union.
