Issued March 30th. Does anyone know what these will look like? Something shows up on realtor websites, but it appears to be an old proposal.

Don’t love the word ‘alterations’ here but good to finally see some movement on this long-vacant building.

It could mean a new roof, windows, etc. It's in the CWE historic district.

Looks like the building Mission Taco, Salt & Smoke, and Ranoush (not pictured) CWE caught fire overnight.

Not sure how much the restaurants are effected but the person who tweeted this makes it sound like probably not well even though the outside doesn’t look bad.

^ says heavy damage within restaurants.

By "the person" you mean the soon-to-no-longer-exist 28th Ward's Alderman Michael Gras. 😄

He's Ald. Sarah Martin's replacement.

This is awful but there is a lot of bright side in the situation to focus on.
  • The building is still structurally sound and will certainly be renovated over the coming months
  • The three restaurants in the building are part of regional chains that are probably struggling with staffing like the rest of the industry. Nobody will be losing their job and it will give them a chance to boost staffing at other locations.
  • If the location was underperforming (not naming names here), the insurance money would give them a smooth exit without weakening the stability of the larger organization
  • If you miss any of these restaurants, all three can be visited in the nearby Delmar Loop!

Man the central west end bar/restaurant scene can't get a break.

^I wonder if it's the Manhattan problem in miniature. The restaurant scene there used to be pretty cool, but literally everything I remember from back in the day is gone now, thanks to rising rents and changing demographics. Maybe it's just getting too expensive now for anything but a chain. That said, better a local chain than out of town, and man, I hope they can fix that building fast. Glad everyone is okay. Frightening stuff.

Great design and progress for 4323-29 Westminster Place. The strength of Fullerton's Westminster Place (4300-4400 Westminster Place) in recent years is encouraging. Two lots (4323 - 4 unit townhomes/condos and 4469 - single family home) have been developed with structures that are complimentary in scale to the existing homes with designs respectful of the architectural significance of these blocks. Such infill virtually completes the infill for the 4400 block with under contract sale prices of 4421 at $1.4 million and 4469 at $1.5 million.

My guess is that with the previous damage, a rogue firework ember or two easily rekindled the exposed wood / materials.

Terrible fire, but glad the shell is mostly intact. This building and future occupants will come back even stronger. Nothing a few million in renovations can't fix.
