Is it just me, or does that thing look kind of . . . odd?

I think it has come together rather nicely

^^It reminds me a great deal of something I'd expect to see in southern Vietnam, actually.

with the exception of the porch columns it's pretty great. i'd say put these all over the city but didn't it take like 4 years to build?

^I don't even dislike the two porch columns, but I do think they need about six to eight friends and some railings. That said, it's a darned interesting porch otherwise. And fixing an undercolonaded front porch can be intimidating.

This was supposed to be for a different thread. Maybe on Twitter? About one of Chicken Joe's pictures, so probably Twitter. About a four-family in Dutchtown, I think it was, with a two story round porch. Clearly I screwed something up.

I’m getting a little bit of spanish colonial mixed with a church on the front side. It’s really horrible architecture.

The McBride homes on The Hill are horrible architecture.  At worst this is simply a bit busy imo.

I really like how this building uses almost all of the lot. It makes it feel more urban. Unfortunately, I think we lost most, if not all, of our similar residential stock to urban renewal and blight around downtown.

And yes McBride’s stuff on the Hill is ugly as sin, but not unexpected. Just look at a lot of the tear down/rebuilds and infill on the Hill - the neighborhood regularly permits ugly, tasteless projects. There are also some stunners.

Love the density, still hate those taupe(?) concrete panels.

Yeah it looks cheap but I do kinda love how modern it is compared with all the faux historic housing they built in place of Gaslight square, I'll bet the neighbors are pissed haha.

Actually, there's already a couple of contemporary buildings on that stretch.

I think that will age far better than the faux historic stuff.

I dunno, it seems like that would depend on the quality of the materials used and the craftsmanship involved more than anything.

Even our single story vernacular historic buildings look stunning after careful renovation. Which is why it’s such a headscratcher for me every time there is still a debate on here about demolition vs rehab.

$2M building permit application submitted for rehab of 4555 PERSHING PL
Appears this $2 million building permit is correct. Excavation in the backyard is underway. Given the owner purchased the 3800 sq ft home for $960K in 2014, there will be over a $3 million investment in this single family home once complete. Very interested to see the final product. This investment along with several high end rehabs/record sales prices, speaks to the likely continued direction of prices in the central corridor.
Follow up. Expensive renovation, but great looking product at 4555 Pershing. Love all the copper.
