Or, as a cheaper option, try a Van der Graaf generator:

I'd love to see a quivering mass on the sidewalk after he tried to bust that window out!

How about this? I think this is as close as you may get: http://www.trunkmonkeyad.com/4qt.htm

Perhaps I can get some assistance.I have visitors coming to St louis for holiday. I am very aware of the need to avoid Black areas of the city to avoid the crime there, but can anyone give me a rough understanding of which areas to tell them to avoid,or which areas are safe from the Blacks? Thank you for your help. And I apologise if this is the wrong format to ask such question.

Should Post-Dispatch commenting be turned off? I can't think of a better way for anonymous racist suburbanites to vent their hatred of the city. The above was in response to the report of two people shot in North City.

Civically speaking, should the comments simply be abandoned? Seriously. My blood pressure can't handle this.

^ The Facebook way of handling unsavory communication seems more effective: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/06/15/fa ... st-denial/.

And if your blood pressure can't handle the comments, perhaps you could learn to deal with stress more effectively?

^^ I actually do think that IF the Post-Dispatch were a serious news organization that they would turn off the comments.

It increases clicks and traffic making the site look more popular to advertisers, which leads to higher revenues.

I absolutely hate the comments section of these stories, but this is by no means something unique to St. Louis. I read online papers in Portland, Chicago and other cities and they are all the same. If you read the comments after crime stories in Portland and Chicago, you would think, based on the comments, that those two cities are the biggest sh**holes in the country. Every city has these type of city-hating people who love to use the comments section of online media to vent.

The comments on the article on the murder in Forest Park are insane.

My favorite so far (did one of you write this?)

"This is why I don't smoke pot with large, strange women at Forest Park. Why don't the police do something about this type of crime? I am going to stay in my suburb house, peeking out the blinds while holding my assualt rifle, watching for drugged out fatties, until something is done about this."

And another gem:

"Just because two women agree to follow you to a park to partake of some herb at your request does not mean they want to have sex with you, does it? "No" means "No", especially when followed by a fatal pummeling."

This is really good stuff. Keep em coming.

Yeah, I am dumber for having read those.

There's a peppering of actual concern and common sense, but for the most part it is snickering about the sexual orientation of the two women charged with the crime, chest thumping by internet tough guys who claim anyone who dares go east of Skinker without packing heat is an "idiot" and folks patting themselves on the back for predicting this was a murder rather than a heart attack by a jogger as someone apparently theorized the other day when the body was found.

Seriously, Post Dispatch. Shut these comments down.

And right after the incident occurred, the posts were all about how "Forest Park is unsafe." I wonder when was the last time some of these people have actually visited FP.

Forest Park is unsafe. We saw a TIGER there last weekend! A ***** TIGER!!!!!!!!!!!! When I called the cops they just laughed and told me not to joke around with 911. Ha ha guys, funny joke. Seriously, I am not going back there until the police take some responsibility and build some kind of trap or pit filled with delicious cat food and yarn and fishies and laser pointers so that families can use the park in peace and not worry about gigantic predatory cats. I mean damn, there is enough to worry about with all the marauding gangs of homicidal lesbian marijuana addicts running around.

PHEW! I will continue to smoke pot in Forest Park with lesbian lovers of small stature.

OK - someone was murdered and that's absolutely horrible. This man did not deserve to die. As someone who uses the park almost daily this murder does not make me feel less safe.

At least this little "nugget" of wisdom was challenged by others on the forum:

"Why west county is better than any part of tiny crescent shaped St. Louis city: [1] Safety - no severe violent crime problem in west county. [2] Responsive government in west county. [3] We don't hate each other in west St. Louis county. We don't even hate north or south St. Louis county. The city of St. Louis has an enormous amount of tension. The people HATE each other in St. Louis city based on your geographical neigborhood (north vs south). The land area of Stl city is too small to live harmoniously with so much tension. Completely the opposite in the county. My wife can go to a ballet class in Town & Country or Creve Coeur with no hassle. [4] The county government is forthright with the citizens about the developments and usually gets input from the effected community. [5] Great schools and plenty of space in west St. Louis county!"

Isn't there a zoo in Forest Park? They have lions, tigers and bears. Oh my!

Looks like the P-D is doing a better job of moderating the crap posts. Here's one below we might recognize.
