god dammit.
Here's the KMOV story:
http://www.kmov.com/story/32702239/5-sh ... and-center
I am Robert Fancher, owner of Fubar Concert Venue. Last night, Fubar fell victim to a drive-by shooting. It resulted in 5 innocent people getting hit by the spray. Fortunately none of the victims suffered life threatening wounds. In addition to the people being hit, three large windows, each 7'x9.5' (pictured in the photo) were completely shattered. I am attempting to raise money to cover the cost of these windows, which are temporarily boarded up. Insurance will not cover this, and I do not have the funds to fix it. I have poured my entire heart and soul into this place, and would like to continue to operate. We get bands from all over the world into St Louis, OUR city, and give the opportunity for local musicians to share the stage with their favorite artists. It is not a very lucrative business financially, but it is 100% in my heart, and I love what I do. I would be forever thankful for any help. Your support means the world to me, and I know some of these shows mean the world to you.
I will also be setting another fund up to help my friend Tim, who was shot in the leg while working at Fubar. I cannot say enough about my gratitude for the the people that keep Fubar up and running. Your hard work and dedication mean the world to me.
Help spread the word!

And people still wonder why our big corporates won't relocate from suburbs to downtown...
- 3,762
it's easy to blame it on crime, but i really don't think there's any evidence that crime is the reason. i think it has a lot more to do with where the majority of St. Louisans and CEOs live, i.e. the suburbs.whitherSTL wrote:And people still wonder why our big corporates won't relocate from suburbs to downtown...

^ of course this particular incident didn't even happen in downtown. Downtown has very little crime impacting office workers and even when considering nightlife crimes, etc. it still isn't a very high rate considering the number of people who come into the area.

^I agree with everything you said but unfortunately it's perception that matters....

If our bar is set such that the city can't thrive unless there is zero crime anywhere, the city is in trouble.

I'm just thinking about fat-cat CEO's who live between Clayton and Town & Country and belong to Bellerive...As for Haversham's comment, I would say that there is very little crime in Clayton CBD. Bar patrons aren't getting shot at in Clayton.

I'm not sure to what extent fears of local companies of the big bad city are in play, but I guess this could be a factor again in my observation that it is outsiders that are clearly the main players in what we do have in terms of the "back-to-the city/downtown" movement.
Post Dispatch headline claims this happened outside of a "downtown" nightclub. The reporter, Ashley Jost, appears young enough to know the difference. I just don't get it.

Yesterday's story about a shootout at a funeral home leaving one man dead shows just how ridiculous the whole crime situation is in St. Louis.
Inside, they're showing their "respects" to the deceased, saying may he "rest in peace". Outside, they're pulling guns on each other, opening fire, and killing people. Just asinine.

Yep, I know enough about Post comments to ignore them. I do wish the commenters would actually go to my study on STLStrong and tell me where my numbers are wrong. They aren't. Since all my sources are publicly available, they could do the same same study and get the same result.urban_dilettante wrote:Nice job, Gary!

Great job Gary. I think the time is right for a county exec candidate to run on the platform of pro-unification.

Let me join the chorus: Well done sir! It's been enlightening to see your graphs. I suspect many of us have intuited portions of what you've said, but you've laid it out in a way that makes everything very clear. And the correlation to property values is striking. Thank you. Let's hope we can all work together to find some kind of real and useful solution to make our city better for everyone.

I buy dinner at that Chinese Express every few weeks. The place has tons of cameras, so hopefully they're helpful in catching the folks who robbed it. And I hope the employee who was injured is alright.
