My friend's car was stolen in front of my house a few years ago. When the cop came to take the report, my friend asked whether she thought he would get the car back, or whether they are usually totaled or chopped up for parts. The cop kind of laugh/snorted and said, "they probably just be shootin somebody, we usually find the car."

good times, good times.

When my friend's house was broken into 2x the detective suggested that they try checking local pawn shops and / or Craigslist for their stuff, and quite possibly e-bay... You may be surprised (or not as it was in our case)

^ Those are great. Not too long after we moved into our home we pulled into the alley to see a pile of clothing on fire immediately in front of our garage door. We put out the fire and waited maybe 20mins for a cop. The cop declined to write a report after learning that the clothes that were burned weren't our own.

Someone stole a friend's car from in front of my house a few months ago. The cops were prompt, very respectful, and had the guy's car back in a couple of hours. I felt like they were very responsive and thorough.

The officer we dealt with in Grand Center a few weeks ago was terrific -- efficient, empathetic, polite.

The larger issue, of course, is that the police report was only useful for statistics-compilation and for an insurance claim. That quick lock-punch and break-in ran up almost $1000 in damage and cost me a $250 deductible. I repeat: If that kind of stuff happens frequently in Grand Center, or near the Stadium, or anywhere else that's a non-City-resident magnet, it's going to have an impact.

(On a related subject, there must have been 20 cops patrolling the Loop at 8 p.m. Saturday night.)

Does anyone know what happened on the cpi parking lot Sunday night? It's the parking lot on Washington between 16th and 17th, just west of the Ely Walker. I was walking up the street and heard a bunch of yelling, by the time I got up to that block there was about 6 cop cars and a paddy wagon. A guy was down on the ground, screaming, in cuffs. A bunch of other people were standing around. Maybe it was just a drunken fight?

Earlier today, there was a cop dealing with 2 younger boys in the same parking lot. The cop had them sitting on the curb. Not sure what was going on there either.

We had a tough week for friends visiting our fair city last week. First we had a friend staying at the Hampton on Market, and could apparently see all the commotion going on at Maggie's. Apparently the talk of all his work associates (all of whom were from out-of-town) was how they needed to get the hell out of here as quickly as possible.

Then we had people staying with us this weekend, only to hear multiple gunshots in Dutchtown around 11:00pm Saturday, following by about a half-hour of choppers flying low overhead. Pleasant.

I feel a bit on edge about this summer...

I respectfully disagree. Less people have been killed this year than last year at this time.

As a former city resident who got burned by crime in 2002, I respect everyone who lives in the city and consistently defends the experience of living in the city. But is the city getting out of hand right now in terms of crime? Or is it just the recent high-profile cases that have added to some people's worry?

As a father of a 3 year-old and a new born, all I can is I'm happy to be in Webster Groves but still try to patronize as many restaurants, bars, and businesses in the city that I can.

God Bless you all. You're the true heroes. Kujay's story wit hregard to his out-of-town guests simply sucks...

Despite some rather erratic behavior - almost begging for some trouble - I've never had any. I've lived in Tower Grove East and DT and been most all over.

I'm fixin to buy a place a couple houses of Cherokee directly. Believe me, if the place gets broken into (someone already stole the central AC box for scrap) you WILL hear about in the papers because I would be one extremely indignant individual.

What I'm saying is that I'd prolly act up mightily. The neighbors would be like "no....go mess with somebody else Jajuan...that bastard is nnnuuuuttts."

I'm enjoying myself just fine. I'm just disappointed when I have to explain twice in one week to different out-of-town guests that this really isn't what life is like here.

These are just two of your posts taken from page 30 of this thread.

Defintion of Idiot:

(1)A foolish or stupid person.

(2)A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age

below three years and generally being unable to learn connected

speech or guard against common dangers.

The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use

and is now considered offensive.

It seems you use language like this at will all over this forum, sometimes with the intention to insult. Yet, when TGE-ATW is making a joke (and a good one at that) to try to ease some tension between two "feuding" forum members you don't seem to sense the context and get all upset because he used a word that's not in your politically correct dictionary.

For a lack of better words I called it "selective sensitivity".

What a terrible, terrible example. Thank you for proving how ignorant you are, it makes me feel better.

I called people at a news organization "idiots."

I called extremists like Danny Glover "idiots" for trying to save the life of someone who raped and murdered 2 sisters.

You compare this to the poster of a retarded kid that TGE posts that is a joke at the expense of the mentally retarded.

And pulling out the "mental retardation" definition for idiot is ridiculous.

That's about as obscure as "gay" being used for happy or "fag" being used for a cigarette.

For a lack of better words, I call you a moron. Oh, there's that selective sensitivity again.
