I have a friend who's a Soulard Neighbor, and he hates, loathes, and despises Mardis Gras.

"Visitors" routinely climb the stone walls around his place to urinate on the side of his house and the neighborhood is left a mess.

Maybe they ought to ship it to Chesterfield along with the other traditional city festivals leaving St. Louis for the suburbs?

KMOX reporting that the shooting was over someone taking someone's favorite parking space

^ Seriously? They ought to burn the ***** at the stake.

Let's add to NN's list of things one must do to avoid being a target in the city:

- Anticipate, or determine through telekinesis, that trash neighbors have claimed specific on-street public parking spots as their own private property, and avoid gatherings that could result in guests parking in those spots. So as not to, you know, become a victim, because it's clearly your own fault.

I do like the idea of moving mardi gras to chesterfield :D

On a somewhat unrelated note, I feel like this story of a potentially wrongly-convicted man in a robbery connected to the Megan Boken case gives a pretty solid example of why many St. Louisans don't really trust the STL Police. I'm not saying that I believe the RFT's suggestion that cops tampered with the case, but it does seem like this man isn't getting justice to have his evidence against his conviction heard in court. http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/colu ... 30c6c.html

I hate riding the metro-link on Mardi Gras. For the last 3 years I found my self on the train on the date of Mardi for what ever reason. The Hoosiers and frat boys are always screaming and cursing on the top lungs. Or just making fun people they see or the city its self. A lot of them just leave there beer or trash in the train after there done drinking it on the train. I felt like I was stuck on one big frat party. I would rather sit by sketchiest looking crowed on a regular day at least they tend to be mostly quite and keep them selves.

Regarding the last point about drinking on metrolink, maybe metro ought to make a point of cracking down on drinking on the trains on days like that since I'm pretty sure food and drink are prohibited.

One thing I can guarantee:

They don't shoot each other in places like Portland, San Francisco, and Austin over snow blocking someone's parking space.

Why? They never get snowed in there!

Well, it's quite obvious from your post that you are not well schooled in the ways of St. Louis storm courtesy.

I'm thinking the shooter had blocked off "his" parking space with two aluminum lawn chairs and that someone from the house of the victim later moved the chairs out of the way and proceeded to park in the other guy's space.

That is obviously a capitol offense, especially this winter.

If what KMOX is reporting is true it seems to be another case of someone using a gun to settle a stupid score. This case may wind up having more in common with the shooting death of a canoeist on the Meramec last summer by an irate property owner than the gangland initiation theories that were floated.

In the Meramec case it was actual property while a city parking spot is only perceived property, but still it's a case where someone's emotions got out of check and the argument was "won" at the end of a gun.

It's not worth it people.

White guilt knows no bounds. A conversation about yet another city drive-by murder turns into "but hoosiers pee in the alley during Mardi Gras".

Amazing.

Anyway, the college kids have already packed up and moved.

^So since everyone didn't just jump to a black-white issue and assume it was a gang initiation like they did at STL Today that makes it "white guilt"?

I for one don't care why they did it, punish the hell out of em!

As for the college kids moving out, I can't blame anyone for doing so after such a tragedy.

But I don't think this is the death knell for Fox Park.

No, what I mean is that I've seen conversations about violence and murder in the city somehow come back around to "hoosiers pee in the alley during Mardi Gras". You know what I mean?

Peeing in alley's during large drinking festivals is a Portland/Austin type of problem. What a great city St. Louis would be if that's all we had to worry about.

PostMar 04, 2014#3145

And to be clear, when I first heard about this I immediatley thought that the perp was probably a student from a rival School of Pharmacology.

exactly. the conversation bifurcated at the mention of Mardi Gras. no apologies were made for murder because of peeing in alleys.

Channel 2 news at 9 reported nothing about this case having any connection to a dispute over a parking space.

They said when the shooting erupted, the victim was running back into the house to escape the violence. The folks at the house were having a Pre-Mardis Gras party, with about 30 people in attendance.

The news reported that the College of Pharmacy is offering a $10,000 reward for info leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

This doesn't sound like a case that's close to being solved.

If you just search comments on this site about "2700 Accomac" or "Old Accomac" you can see there are some gangs here that don't want to let go of their hood.

Maybe it's time for cops to go in guns blazing. These punks would be better off as compost!
