I am a total mama's boy, but I hate grit and I don't feel cool when my neighbors get robbed at gun point. I feel awful. I would much prefer to live in my neighborhood if it were better maintained, safer, and if more of my neighbors took pride in their properties and themselves. I stay because I think it can and will get better and because I think that my presence and investment can be a part of making that happen. I do not stay because I like to brag about being afraid to walk around after dark or feeling like it is just a matter of time until my number comes up and I get mugged or worse.

I give you serious credit for admitting that. Now, where the F is Doug?
I think that's my point. Wouldn't it have made more sense to report that the incident took place @ 10th & Cole?bonwich wrote:Believe it or not, 10th and Cole is 1000 N. 10th. Hard to tell. I'm still trying to figure out exactly which building was in question. There's apparently some sort of U.S. Bank support facility at 1005 Convention Plaza, which is technically none of the above. My best guess is that the call really did come in for "1000 block of 10th." Perhaps one of our public-servant posters can shine a light on dispatching protocol.innov8ion wrote:I think that's my point. Between mouthfuls of donuts and chicken wings, our dispatchers give out as little information as possible. Sometimes the addresses get mixed up when they are typing on the keyboard because the chicken wing they are holding accidentally hits another key.
Real answer is that they give us what they are given so could be corner of Cole and N 10th or could be 1005 N 10th or the 10hundred block of, for example. Seems as though the Public Information people do like to use the hundred block nomenclature.

One dead, one injured in bike shooting
http://www.globe-democrat.com/news/2010 ... -shooting/
"Police say the victims were sitting on the front porch and were confronted by two men on bikes. The two men stopped, briefly had words with the victims. One man pulled out a gun and started shooting."
Good to see the criminals are going green. I guess cycling has really gone mainstream now. Who rides a bicycle and carries a gun, anyway? Where do you put it if you are wearing those revealing black bicycle shorts? "Is that a handgun, or are you just happy to see me?" If the trend catches on, it could make the Tour de France a lot more exciting. Do we need to start worrying about young people joining street pelitons? I assume the cops are out looking for the getaway bike ahead of the upcoming time trial.

The Globe-Democrat is making geographical progress: This time they didn't write it happened in downtown St. Louis.

Great, the logging industry must be having trouble in this economy as well.

This is exactly why I support CC permits for axes. If axes were outlawed, only outlaws would have axes.

^Guess Chicago will see a rash of crimes such as this with their gun ban...
Seriously, I don't like any crimes, but I'd prefer an ax over a gun any day. At least you have a fighting chance. Even a simple thing like mace, can allow you to overcome a guy with an ax. With a gun, you have very little chance, considering how trigger happy thugs are and how little respect they have for life.

Doesn't get much worse than this. A young man from rural Illinois comes to St. Louis looking for work. His Grandmother suggests that maybe the New Life Evangelistic Center could help him find something. Instead, he gets tortured, dismembered, and set on fire:

I was hoping for some "So I Married an Axe Murderer" quotes
Stuart Mackenzie: Look at the size of that boy's heed.
Tony Giardino: Shhh!
Stuart Mackenzie: I'm not kidding, it's like an orange on a toothpick.
Tony Giardino: Shhh, you're going to give the boy a complex.
Stuart Mackenzie: Well, that's a huge noggin. That's a virtual planetoid.
Tony Giardino: Shh!
Stuart Mackenzie: Has it's own weather system.
Tony Giardino: Sh, sh, shh.
Stuart Mackenzie: HEAD! MOVE!

Wear cargo shorts and bring a can of mace. Lift weights. Look around your shoulder. Don't walk around alone. Make sure your home and street is well lit. What other personal advice can we give?
I am surprised this wasn't an Appalachian hipster committing the crime.

Well you're right about the walking alone part. I was assaulted by one of the bands of black teens right in front of the OCL building tonight not 100 feet from a bunch of patrons at Pi. I was heading east and they ran up from behind. I turned around but couldn't do much at that point. Three or four of them made contact. Luckily they missed my teeth and didn't go for my valuables. I guess they just wanted to hit someone. ***** little bastards.

Crime update from the STLPD:
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Due to the recent assault and robbery that occurred on 7/20/2010 at 4700
Prague (Francis Park) in which we arrested a female suspect and four
other individuals for committing the crime, and due to me being informed
that our residents of district two are seeing some suspicious
individuals walking in and around the parks, there will be two uniformed
officers working 4pm to Mid-Night that will be assigned to the parks
until further notice. I need you not to hesitate when considering
dialing 911 for suspicious persons that you see in the parks. The
officers will need your help in order to watch each park when they are
working. I want you to introduce yourselves to these officers when you
see them and develop a rapport with them.
As of right now our crime in the district is down compared to last year.
Our burglaries are down at this point almost 20%. Car theft is down
almost 30%. Our major problem is larcenies which mostly consist of
stealing from motor vehicles (car clouting). We are still leaving our
personal items in our cars. We have got to stop leaving items such as
GPS systems, laptops, purses, cell phones, chargers, etc in our
vehicles. Do not make it easy for the individuals that are riding
around breaking into vehicles. I want to commend the citizens of the
district for calling 911 more this year as oppose to last. With your
help we have been successful arresting burglary and robbery suspects on
a consistent basis. Please continue to call 911 for anything or anyone
that makes you suspicious!
Respectfully,
Captain Ronnie Robinson

I was driving eastbound on Nottingham Avenue last Tuesday evening when I saw a maroon car pulled over at the intersection of Tamm and Nottingham avenues, across from St. Gabe's. There were three or four people sitting on the ground as police searched the car- I'm guessing these were the people behind the assault/robbery that night?

^I think it is just FP.
Not sure, but more than likely. Not too many groups of 4 getting arrested in that area.

I really WISH this same type of response would occur in O'Fallon Park. Maybe then it wouldn't be a crime haven?DOGTOWNB&R wrote:Crime update from the STLPD:
