Looks like thug #1 is getting charged when he gets out of the hospital and thug #2 is clinging to life. He'll either die over a petty robbery or get charged and hopefully jailed. Still no info on the victim.
I saw the "victim" on TV. I still bet thug. I'll check with some law enforcement sources.

I would say the overall feel of this thread has become a bit jaded.

And I'm feeling down because we got one group of nuisance neighbors out and another group has moved onto the block. And a window was broken in my garage, lawn tools were stolen, and the lowlifes responsible even tagged the garage with some graffiti as an added bonus. (It wasn't even good graffiti, or I could have at least appreciated their creativity on some level.) I love city living, and I can't imagine living anyplace else in the region, but I'm getting a little tired of playing Whac-A-Mole since a problem always seems to spring up just as another problem is resolved.

I was watching Dexter last night. You should install some high powered motion detection lights.
And on a side note: I would buy a shotgun. A handgun for home protection is quite useless. With a shotgun you dont have to be a marks-smith.

^i think you meant "marksmen". And yes, a shotgun is a much more effective home defense weapon (and cheaper than a handgun).

I think my S&W .38 will do just fine if anyone should bust in to my house in the wee hours. If you think you need to be a marksman to shoot someone with a handgun from 5 feet away, you need some more target practice.

I don't want to turn this into a weapons thread, but if you have a shotgun you really never have to fire it. Just the cocking sound will scare anyone away.

Did anyone know what happened at the corner of washington and 14th? I saw a wrecked car and a bunch of detectives.

- per a caller on 590 this morning - Some guy got in an accident and when the police arrived, he fled while yielding a box cutter and eneded up cutting one of the arresting officers. (not life threatening)

Wash Ave had a different look to it this Sunday night with Lucas Park and the Dubliner closed. One of the biggest nights of the year and you're closed?

Almost everything was closed. I wonder if it had anything to do with the liqueur license not being able to sell on Sunday. Are some limited to that type of sale?

Police were chasing "Sumdood" in a 500 series Mercedes south on 14th for reasons I don't know. Rumors I heard included carjacking, but he may have been driving with contraband. Either way, it was a high-speed chase, and the driver was trying to evade. The Mercedes tried to spin a U-turn before Washington but misread the car's turning radius, crashing into an electrical conduit at the NE corner of 14th and Washington, knocking it right off its foundation. The 2 police cars emptied as the cops tried to get the unknown driver ("Sumdood") out of the Mercedes. He resisted. As he resisted, he cut one officer's arms. While some people said he was biting, I'd infer that it was with a knife as 20 cop cars came flying down to the corner, likely responding to a call of an officer being attacked with a weapon. "Sumdood" was eventually tazed and taken into custody, thrown in the back of a police van; the cut officer was taken away in an ambulance. Yellow tape blocked the intersection for a bit as the scene was secured, removed after detectives had the opportunity to oversee and allow traffic back in. Of the 20 police cars on scene, 2 were unmarked cars that broke cover. The whole thing cleared out just as quickly before the TV news could get a big flashy picture for the late report.

I also wanted to know if anyone knew where a woman was robbed at gunpoint at an ATM in South St. Louis. I saw it on the preview for the 10:00 news last night, but missed it. Anyone know where in South City this robbery occurred?

I just learned that the US Bank downtown on Locust was robbed this morning. I went there and it was closed so I went to the branch on Tucker and the teller said the bank was closed because there was an investigation into the robbery underway. Oy

That White Castle has been a sketchy place for a long time, especially at night.

I don't feel any less safe here, but I will say that last night's numerous shootings are still a bit alarming if not all that surprising or scary for me on a personal level. We know these crimes are rarely random, they are typically confined to a few neighborhoods, and that the city is generally a safe place in which to live. At the same time, I have recently been a victim of theft, I have had to call police on several occasions for various issues lately, and I have been told by multiple police officers that things are especially bad this summer. Granted, the last observation is perception, and that hasn't changed my perception of my own safety, but I find myself being a bit more vigilant these days.

Last I heard the couple who went to the hospital with gunshot wounds claimed they were shot at or around White Castle on S. Broadway, but police investigating found no evidence that the shooting happened there.

Maybe they were somewhere else they didn't want to disclose?

More trouble from one of the clubs downtown again. Club Fifteen and Sugar Lounge have very large parties on Sunday nights. There were 4 people shot at 14th and Locust in a parking lot used by Sugar Lounge. Thankfully one of the shooters was caught.

Shooting at Cole and Hadley within the past hour. They think a stray bullet from the same shooting hit someone at U.S. Bank downtown.

"Moments later, police got a call for a second shooting at an office builiding in the 1000 block of 10th Street nearby."
The 1000 block of 10th Street? That seems to miss the concept of the grid system...

Believe it or not, 10th and Cole is 1000 N. 10th. (And there's actually a corner of 2nd and 2nd in Manhattan.)
