A great start to the year, nonetheless.

I emailed Governor Kehoe and referenced our reduction in crime under city control, and the increase in KC under state control. I also asked for a details about what I can expect if the state were to take control, and reminded this was on the ballot and passed by the voters. Perhaps they can try that again, if the people want a change.Rick Prieto wrote: ↑Jan 30, 2025I hope State Control of the police in the City of St Louis doesn't go through, there has been progress. I think the people wanting state control need to explain why crime has been increasing in Kansas City with state control. Having said that, if it happens at least I would hope it would come with more funding for police that would allow officers in the city to have better pay which I would believe would help with retention and filling vacancies. If it's state control for the sake of having state control, I don't think it makes sense. I was supportive of state control when there was a push to defund the police.

It will pass, city will sue and it will be in the courts for a while because control was given back to the city via a statewide vote

Homicide in the afternoon today at the Grove QuikTrip.

^ the details of some of these homicides/killings can be so damn senseless. Apparently in this case it was three long-time friends hanging out together and driving around and two got in a fight and one of the women shot her friend from the backseat. And then there's the grandmother in NoCo who keeps a gun under her pillow and her 4 yr. granchild found it and shot herself to death.

Sometimes it seems like people hear the news that we had a record low crime month and things get extra senseless. Had a few loud days after a quiet January, especially with some car break in sprees in main areas. Great to hear that the high schooler that got shot at the bus stop will survive.

I’m sure I’m jinxing it but we’re at 11 homicides as of 2/10 which is a pace for 97 on the year.
For reference, KC is at 18.

For all the reporting that STL media does on crime, has no one asked how SLMPD North Patrol is driving crime rates down?
6 weeks in, 2 homicides for an area perceived to be STLs most dangerous. Follows nearly being passed by Central Patrol (for the first time ever) in 2024.
Why aren’t we talking about it?!

Crime is my number one issue in STL (both from a real and PR perspective) - seeing the data the past few years has been seriously amazing. Anytime someone is talking bad about the city, I bring up the fact that we've made huge progress in homicide and overall crime reduction.addxb2 wrote: ↑Feb 11, 2025For all the reporting that STL media does on crime, has no one asked how SLMPD North Patrol is driving crime rates down?

^ Yes but almost all of the reduction has come from 1/3 of the city. We need to know, has a policy/approach changed or is it demographic/socioeconomic.
If North Patrol returns to where it was (proportionally) for decades, there is no progress.
Someone needs to be asking what’s going on.

This has been where the reductions have really came the last couple years. The Central Patrol has actually had mixed results, seeing stagnant or even increasing numbers. The North patrol getting nose dives in numbers. The south patrol keeping everything under control with the exception of Dutchtown.addxb2 wrote: ↑Feb 11, 2025For all the reporting that STL media does on crime, has no one asked how SLMPD North Patrol is driving crime rates down?

And to your point about the media covering crime in StL, it truly is above and beyond compared to other major metros I’ve lived. StL media send out live alerts about any carjacking or robbery it seems like.
-Louisville media only covered homicides and serial offenders of other crime, but similar to StL did definitely hype up downtown crime.
-Cincinnati media was very diligent about reporting crime reductions, rather than any increases in crime. Could even say a sunshine pumping media compared to most
-Chicago media just straight up doesn’t try to cover crime. I lived in south loop and we had several homicides in our neighborhood, even pretty egregious ones, that I could only find reporting from independent people on twitter. I think the city hovered around 2 homicides a day for the couple years I was there and the local news @5 ignored almost all of them.
So yea StL media needs to find a more balanced approach because I’ve never seen the quantity and diversity in reporting crime that goes on around here. It’s closer to the small town I grew up in - everything gets a story
Regardless, this is great news so far. Definitely hoping for no jinx

The Jones admin has partnered with community groups that focus on intervening in beefs before they blow up into full scale blood feuds. Groups like Show Me Peace. Those groups are particularly active in north city.

Hard to prove intent or criminality when someone is hiding under your car.

She says that the driver made eye contact with her, meaning the driver knew she was directly in front of his car according to her. He says he didn't know she was there.dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Feb 13, 2025There is no he said she said here. The facts of the case were simple. Gun fire broke out. He said she said. Can't prove either one is true.

Can anyone explain to me how the calls for service page works? I’ve figured out it’s on a 45-60 minute delay, which I get for the safety of first responders.
The other night I called in shots fired (+10) n alley or adjacent street. 911 was prompt (love to see it) and said they would roll patrol car. Never saw them (stayed up 2 hours in case they wanted to talk. Never saw anything post anywhere on CFS for my call, or other reports. Does it really get thrown in the trash because I didn’t provude an exact location other than “alley behind my house”? If so very bothersome

you're seriously suggesting she got down on the ground and crawledf under his car? if you were running from gunfire, would you take the time to get down on the ground and slowly shimmy under a car, or would you just duck behind the car?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Feb 13, 2025There is no he said she said here. and do you generally get out and check your grill for damage when you don't realize you've just plowed over a human being?
what are you doing?

How do you know which way was the car facing? What if she decided to hide in front of the car because the shooter was on the opposite side? If I'm in panic trying to escape and save my life, perhaps I would disregard noises I would normally stop to. I don't know what happened, but I don't think it's a slam dunk. I need to see evidence before making up my mind.urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Feb 14, 2025you're seriously suggesting she got down on the ground and crawledf under his car? if you were running from gunfire, would you take the time to get down on the ground and slowly shimmy under a car, or would you just duck behind the car?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Feb 13, 2025There is no he said she said here. ^ and the CA did see the evidence. Including multiple videos and came to the conclusion that the drive committed no crime that is provable in court
