Was listening to KTRS 550 yesterday morning (I'm old) and they were discussing the Millennium plans. McGraw commented that it will help connect the various points of interest in that part of Downtown. They then all agreed that crime was so bad Downtown that they (grown-ass men) would be scared to walk from Busch Stadium to the Arch grounds. SCARED TO WALK THREE BLOCKS!!!!
There is absolutely nothing the City can do to reach these bozos, short of electing their god-emperor Mayor for life.

Funny how millions of tourists each year walk over the lid to the Arch grounds without issue.

Say what you will about KMOX, but having their studios downtown makes the discourse about the area much more grounded in reality

4 homicides in February
Homicides through February;

2024- 30
2025 YTD homicides v 10 year average (26): -50%

The 13 is the lowest going back to at least 2009 (that’s when the SLMPD data stops on its website)

^Its amazing. What a February.
Everyone please say a prayer or offer up some fingers crossed for this to be a trend and not a 2-month blip.

I love to hear this, truly hope the worm has turned.
However, the salesman in me is looking at the numbers and thinking it's going to be hard to go against these in 2026! What a good problem to have!

I trust DB to correct me if I'm wrong as he keeps good track of this but it appears Kansas City is at 31 murders 2025 YTD.
This link shows 33 in the KC metro area but one is in Lenexa and another in Independence

It’s a problem for the gov and the state legislature after state control passesGoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Feb 28, 2025I love to hear this, truly hope the worm has turned.

What about them taking control means they’ll actually hold any responsibility? I don’t see journalist or the public grilling Gov over KCs numbers.dbInSouthCity wrote:It’s a problem for the gov and the state legislature after state control passesGoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Feb 28, 2025I love to hear this, truly hope the worm has turned.

Is my math correct? The 25% requirement would mean ~$10M more annually to SLMPD?

I have a theory on that. Kc people only know state control. This one will be fresh in people’s mind and coming off historic declines

According to the Kansas City Star, Kansas City is up to 24 murders as of Feb. 27, 2025.

Ended month on a real bad, sad note. Double homicide is an infant and adult. Horrible news
The state government is just going to jump ahead of the parade and claim credit for solving the problem of violence downtown the moment that the state control kicks back in.

I never understood those who commit murder-suicides. Are you that much of a coward that you’ll kill your partner, children, friend or neighbor then kill yourself? What does anyone stand to gain from this besides division? Is this your last chance to cause problems in the lives of people you once claimed to care about?

Tough to understand someone's mentality during a mental health crisis. In my opinion, these are moments of insanity and understanding is difficult. However, funding mental health initiatives and providing resources to those in need is what can stop these lapses in sanity from occurring.

The type of high profile thing that takes us a step back when it come to perception for sure.
I also just find the stretch along Lindell between Boyle and Vandeventer in need of a big overhaul. The fast food joints, strip mall, gas station, parking lots just attract more petty, random and characters up to no good than should be. It’s a poorly designed area in an otherwise walkable, urban beautified neighborhood.
Would be an area to focus on cleaning up, sidewalk and street designs and getting some stronger development to maybe improve CWEs surroundings and footprint to the north and east.

They better have crime out of this city. No blaming it on Democrats, on wokeism, on BLM, on the mayors office - no, you take control, you are going to be held accountable to a very high standard for drastic decreases in crime.
