There was the $150 million office space and plant expansion, complete with an incentives package, announced over a decade ago. I'm not sure how much of that was ever completed. I thought there was a thread for it, but can't find it atm.sc4mayor wrote: ↑Oct 08, 2021Anyone able to find out what's going on at P&G? I did a little digging but haven't found much. I wonder if they're building a new office building after demolishing the historic one.RayfromSTL wrote:
Chris, There's also a tower crane up at the P&G plant in north city @ Grand & 70
There is, but there’s not really any information in it:

procter-gamble-proposes-cascade-of-st-l ... t7981.html
The P&G tower crane appears to be on the parcel that once held the North City trash incinerator (long since closed). P&G bought that land in 2015. There is a completed demolition permit for that building. That parcel doesn't show any active building permits, but the other parcels that hold the P&G plant show lots of open building permits for various factory expansions, but none of them really give a good description.

did you see that 169 E Grand foundation permit for MEGATRON? Sounds bad ass!

^ I did see that haha. Also saw the P&G crane today…not as noticeable as you’d think.
If someone can safely snag a shot from the Midtown Viaduct, the crane porn from there is pretty damn good.

Central West End construction activity, from yesterday:

+4

From the Foundry:

So, the Midtown/CWE count is currently at five. Three at the Neuroscience complex and two at the Cancer Center. BJC and the Foundry folks have applied with the FAA for an additional three combined. Two at the Queeny replacement and one at the Foundry residential project. Should be back up to 8 in short order around this part of town. It also looks like Cortex MX is getting close, that project may use one as well. My guess is Steelcote 4 (Target) will not, but it is going to be 6 stories tall...SoHo used one after all.
Still have three up in Clayton (hotel and two office towers) another two near downtown (P&G and SoHo) and the Mercy crane out West. The BJ article about the York AC Hotel opening said it would be the first of four still planned AC's in STL. Hopefully that means the taller Clayton project will be moving forward soon. Hopefully we'll see Opus move on its downtown and Loop projects within the year.
Any scuttlebutt on 4210 or the Armory Towers? Bemiston Place in Clayton?
Edit: Guess I could add the Lux projects at the Optimist and Drury sites to the upcoming list too. Oh, and 1801 Washington.

So where do we stand? There's still the Mercy crane, I saw the Clayton trio today, plus I think three at the neuroscience center (two with red lights and one with blue lights), plus what may be the beginnings of the first Queeny crane. I did not see the other two at Barnes, though that doesn't mean they weren't there. And I missed it on my drive home, but I expect the Soulard crane is still there. (It was a week or so ago.) Not sure about P&G. Haven't been up that way in a while. We might be sitting at a record if none of the old ones have gone down yet.
Three at Neuroscience, two of which have red lights, the third has none. Two at the cancer center of which at least one is lit up in blue, possibly both. Another at Queeny, also lit up in red. Should be at 12 if the Soulard and P&G cranes are still up.
Queeny should have a second crane in short order and I’d imagine WU will require another one to build the six floor addition to the existing building in the center of campus. BJC/WU will soon have 8 cranes on campus. Edit: Yes, there will be a crane for the 6 floor expansion at the Institute of Health:
https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/se ... 4689&row=4
City Foundry had its permits issued, so that’ll be another going up in short order as well. Sounds like Armory Phase I may be be slowly moving forward too, hopefully it’ll start this year. Couple other Lux projects are a possibility if they can get them past the city preservation folks. Edit 2: May see two more in Clayton for Bemiston Place and the AC on Central sooner than later also.
I’m sure Chris or someone else has a few potential future ones I may have missed. Either way, that drive down 40 looks pretty awesome, especially at night.

1801 WashAve and 1014 Spruce, whenever they start, are likely to get them as well. There's a slim chance that Steelcote Phase 4 gets one too, but it's not a given. It depends really. As far as that, you got the others. Until other, larger scale projects are announced, it's unlikely others will show up unless unexpectedly.
I can confirm that both the P&G and SoHo cranes are up.

Aha, that's why I wasn't seeing all the CWE cranes. I didn't realize it was even allowed to put them up without lights. I must have seen the two lit neuroscience cranes, the blue cancer center crane, and the Queeny crane. If the second cancer center crane is lit I didn't see it. The Queeny crane looks a bit odd, as it's probably not all the way up and it has a luffing boom.sc4mayor wrote: ↑Jan 17, 2022Three at Neuroscience, two of which have red lights, the third has none. So we're at least holding steady and if we haven't broken the record we will soon.
^The Queeny crane is fully assembled and operational. It has been in use to move rebar cages. I would expect a jump at some point, but it needs a building to tie to before then. The luffing jib is certainly out of the ordinary for the St. Louis market. Last that I can remember is the two tower cranes on the Stan Span. Before that, the Eagleton Federal Courthouse is the last I can remember. There were two on there. I'm sure there have been others in the last 20 years, but nothing is coming to mind immediately.
Unexpected…always nice to have another crane…sucks it’s for a garage though.
I guess that brings the total to 13 currently, with three more in the immediate pipeline (Queeny, IH, and the Foundry).

I was living in CoMO during the construction of both the courthouse and the bridge, so maybe I just didn't get a good look at them. I remember watching the core go up on the courthouse. Which was pretty cool at that time. Anyway, glad to know it's up and running. It looks pretty short to me next to the main building, so I was figuring at the least it's going to have to jump up quite a bit. It's definitely a neat looking crane.MattnSTL wrote: ↑Jan 17, 2022^The Queeny crane is fully assembled and operational. It has been in use to move rebar cages. The luffing jib looks awesome lit up at night. Looks like only one of the cancer center cranes has lights. Wish they'd add them on the second one and the third neuroscience crane.
With the news of Cortex MX today, hopefully that adds a fourth to the near-term pipeline. Though it's two large buildings, I assume they'd only use one. Would love to see the region pushing 20 cranes in the not too distant future...sc4mayor wrote:I guess that brings the total to 13 currently, with three more in the immediate pipeline (Queeny, IH, and the Foundry).

I’m not sure I’ve been following STL development long enough to know that. I’d say we’re probably getting close to it now, at least in terms of recent memory. Especially if another handful go up relatively quickly.
Probably a good question for one of our more tenured members haha.
This photo was from 2015 with 8 between the Midtown and CWE areas. That area should soon be up to 10 if MX moves quickly.

If I remember correctly, I believe the CWE had 9 up at one point. Citizen Park (1), Orion (2), Childrens/Parkview Tower (3), Mid Campus Center (2), College of Pharmacy (1). But there might be some overlapping in my memory. All I remember was that the 2015 CWE construction boom was impressive with all those cranes.

We had ten going regionally in 2018 or so for a little while: 1-3 WU East End, 4 100 OTP, 5-6 Ballpark Village, 7-8 Centene, 9 Clayton bank reskin, 10 SLU Hospital. (I might have it backwards between Centene and SLU. One of the two had a crawler working the parking garage instead of a tower crane. I'd have to dig back through pictures to be sure.) And it got drug out a little since as the first cranes came down from WU they quickly went up for hotels and apartments. Not sure it ever dropped below eight, so this is getting to be a pretty good run generally.

Would be nice to get 1014 and 1801 going sooner than later. Get a couple more cranes on the downtown skyline...
