I was just thinking......With so many cranes flying over the St. Louis skyline, this would be a good opportunity to post some “crane-centric” photos on Skyscraper-Page ‘ my city photos’ forum and other sites to show the country this is not the city portrayed negatively in the national media. The LA Times writer who called us a “dump of the city“ got me thinking of ways to counter that bad publicity.

It would be cool to start threads mentioning the construction boom in St. Louis. The Number of cranes in the central corridor is very noticeable coming down 40 from the east. I’m not sure with the crane count is right now, but it’s a good number.

^Was thinking something like that myself this weekend. I want to say the crane count is sitting at 13 eight now, and I think there's probably better perspectives than the Ikea parking lot, but a friend wanted to see what the fuss was all about, so I happened to be there.

Depending on how the weather shapes up I might try to get a better shot sometime soonish.

Honestly the shoulder on the Midtown Viaduct is probably your best bet. Unless anyone knows someone that would take them up to the roof at Ray Carol.

I’d wait until the IH and the Foundry (and possibly the second Queeny) cranes go up to get a few more in the shot though.

Yeah, coming North on Grand by SLU research tower / hospital you really get an impressive view of the construction activity and cranes deployed.

I was traveling west  on 40 a few weeks ago from downtown. The view into the central corridor was quite impressive looking  over IKEA. Cranes are towering over that view with more to come. We need to capture that and let outsiders know about the building boom here, brag a little bit!

I’ve thought that too. Greater STL needs to get a few photographers on contract!

That's a great photo. If we can get a few more, I would be happy to post to skyscraper page, 'my cities' but would prefer if the photographer posted them and took credit. It would be cool if somebody posted a catchy St. Louis Crane porn thread and photographed all of the cranes from the Arch to Clayton to the Mercy project at 270 & 40. Why not!  I think it is important to 'show off' when we have good things happening here. May not be impressive to a Nashville or Austin resident, but more so to our 'peer city rivals'.

Mother-in-law had an appt. at BJC, 12th floor, Advanced Medicine Building, probably the best skyline views in the city.

Speaking of tower cranes, I guess this is the current count.
1 at SoHo
1 at P&G
1 at MLS
1 at City Foundry
3 at Neuroscience
2 at Siteman
2 at Queeny
2 at Forsyth Pointe
1 at Clayton Residence Inn
1 at Mercy Hospital
1 at Streets of St. Charles (Chapter apartments)
Total of 16.

In addition to a few we know for sure, with recent announcements, I would imagine cranes are soon coming to the following.
1 at 1801 Washington (permits issued)
1 at Institute of Health (staging started)
1 at Clayton AC Hotel (demo has stated)
1 at Bemiston Place (demo has started)
1 at Delcrest (Delmar & 170, ground broken)

Total of 21 once those are up, provided some others don’t come down, which is always possible.

I keep looking to see if they are putting one at the project at 170 and Delmar. I forget the name. They got a pretty deep hole that I think finally is about done being concreted. It’s going to be awfully tight to try to do it with a mobile crane.

^^^Holy cow but does that look sweet! Yes. That is some serious crane porn. Especially with such a prominent new highrise in the background. (Honestly, the 90/00s condo tower ain't bad either. All in all a GREAT shot!)

Should be expect any tower cranes on the projects near SLU Hospital?
Not sure how much room they have for lay-down. Assuming some of those projects end up in tight areas, they will need a tower crane.

No pic, but by accident I found myself on 40/64 westbound from downtown and there is a pretty dramatic view of the east-west alignment of cranes as you approach City Foundry.

^ Drove back from Illinois on the Poplar both yesterday and today…it’s quite the impression.  Soon the IH and Queeny cranes will add a bit more.  Would be nice to get Armory and Cortex MX going sooner than later…
