CityGarden is named one of the 16 Best Summer Attractions for Families by Budget Travel, and a picture of the Eros Bound sculpture gets marquee placement to boot (at least on the web - haven't seen the print article yet)!

They will also be debuting a new sculpture soon (Big Suit) in place of the tomb.

I sure everything possible is being done to continue the Gateway Mall master plan...Momentum needs to ne taken advantage of...Still saying a daily rosary the JNEM redevelopment monies are found that would link all of this together ;)

Actually I believe Big Suit will be placed on top and should arrive next month.

Terrace View is closing. (In retrospect) it seemed like a poor fit for the sculpture park. What might work better?

^I think the idea of a bar/restaurant is not flawed. I think their execution of this incarnation was.

Case in point, tried to stop in for a drink on a gorgeous Sunday over labor day weekend at 3:30 after the Cards Reds game and it was closed. Hard to be successful when you are missing most of the largest crowds that come downtown.

I enjoyed my meals at Terrace View, but I think a think a more casual (read: cheaper) place would clean up here, especially if they sold nice to-go meals that you could walk around and eat (though that might lead to a trash problem). Too bad Bailey's Range has a different location, I could see a burgers-and-shakes place cleaning up here. It could be a little upscale, make going to Citygarden for fun and food a nice treat, but the price point of Terrace View, for me anyway, made it a "special occasions only" kind of place. I only ate there during the downtown restaurant week specials.

I seriously doubt Danny Meyer will ever open a place in STL. However, if ever there were a location custom-tailored for a Shake Shack, I think Terrace View is it.

Hmm...got me thinking. Could be the perfect location for a certain enterprising St. Louisan to open his first Shake Shack location.

^^ Yes. Terrace View wasn't the type of place you would wonder into - though it sits in the epicenter of the best wondering in the city. Shouldn't the business fit the place a little better?

When the downtown Park Avenue Coffee was announced, I was hoping it would be at this location. CityGarden and gooey butter cake? Yes please.

How about Park Avenue Coffee teams up with World's Fair Donuts.

We ate there right when it opened and agreed that the portions were extremely small, extremely overpriced, and extremely too fru fru for the location.
Obviously, we were not impressed and never returned.

I would say a good coffee house or a nice burger/sandwich shop would be more of a fit for location and visitors.

Since the saucer on Grand appears to have a tenant already, how about a Pi Burgers concept location here?

IMO Terrace View is a failure in credible business model and an even greater failure in execution...I mean Gone Corporate didn't even know where the restaurant was for the Beacon and Eggs thing the other morning! Mr. Fiala should find new marketing/advertising people...That location should work...

PostSep 21, 2011#420

Maybe not a diner in the location...But something that can offer families/friends a place to snack yet maybe still offer a sit down dinner and/or drinks spot...

I'm only half joking when I say a McDonald's. We no longer have one downtown, and it would clean up at CityGarden.

According to the Beacon, the new restaurant has been selected: Joe's Chili Bowl, by Kim Tucci and Joe Fresta of Pasta House fame. It opens April 13th and will be open from 6:30 am to 9 pm 7 days a week, year round. As you might guess from the name, it will be much more casual than Terrace View.

Was REALLY holding out hope for Danny Meyer stepping up to the plate with a Shake Shack for his hometown. Too bad.

Also, as a side note, this would make a kick-ass location for the midwest's first In-and-Out.

Joes sounds like a good concept. Should do better than an upscale restaurant.
