According to the U.S. Census, in 2014, Downtown STL had about 75,000 (with the CBD accounting for about 38,400, but those numbers could be a bit off), the CWE had about 34,000, and Clayton had about 25,800.roger wyoming II wrote:^ Clayton sez it has 35,000 people working in the downtown CBD while downtown stl sez it has 80,000.... however, you have to keep in mind Clayton's CBD is a smaller area than what dtstl looks at... I'd really like to know what the number is for the CBD alone; I seem to recall some data saying around 60.000 but don't quote me.
Realize that many / most of the Centene employees that will move to the new campus already work in one of the five other locations that Centene currently leases west of I-270.Randy wrote:If this goes through as office it will certainly shift the center of the region westward and redefine my idea of what the center of STL is. Anyone have a current count of downtown STL vs. Clayton CBD employment figures?
I'd expect numerous residential projects to be announced within a year of this. I hate that it's not downtown, but I'm happy it's in an urban environment with transit.chaifetz10 wrote:That shift might help more residential towers spring up as a result too... at least I hope it's a residual effect.
Hopefully the NIMBYs and BANANAs in Clayton will drive development back into St. Louis City.arch city wrote:Keeping my fingers crossed on this one for a cutting-edge design and a problem-free process.
Hate to be Donald Downer, but Clayton is full of tomfoolery at times and the 212 Meramec lawsuit foolishness is proof of it.
I hope there are no lawsuits by people saying they can't see out to Westport Plaza or something just as hideous.
